Oral Public Health Specialist

The incumbent shall provide expert knowledge, skills, technical consultation and expertise in dental public health services and projects, support community oral health education and advisory services, and develop/improve community dental public health promotion and prevention programs.

Job Responsibilities:

• Plan, organize, and implement community oral public health programs and projects in line with the corporate as well as national health strategies.
• Develop plans to enforce oral health promotion and preventive in the community
• Establish processes to monitor outcomes of community oral public health programs and projects and suggest changes to improve the outcomes
• Provide specialist advice and input on any relevant initiatives that require an oral health perspective
• Provide professional advisory support to relevant staff members ensuring an efficient and effective service delivery.
• Develop training needs for dentist/dental hygienist/dental assistants when needed or upon request.
• Develop and review dental health educational materials.
• Develop policies, guidelines and procedures related to oral public health services
• Demonstrate proactive approach to patient safety by preempting risks and taking necessary actions to prevent them from happening
• Assist in collating all necessary information related to serious incidents and risks related to the service.
• Follow patient safety-related policies, procedures and protocols.
• Participate in audit, customer satisfaction programs, research and other quality improvement activities
• Liaise with relevant departments/sections to develop monitoring and evaluation reports related to oral public health services
• Monitor progress of all programs, projects and service improvement initiatives related to oral public health services
• Analyze community needs regarding oral health promotion and prevention, identify trends and patterns of dental disease, and report recommendations to line managers based on evidence-based findings
• Use verbal and written communication to establish and maintain effective relationship within the department as well as other directorates.
• Develop reports and presentations as per request of the line manager
• The incumbent will undertake any other related duties or responsibilities as directed.
• Ensure high standards of confidentiality to safeguard any sensitive information.
