Job Summary and Purpose

Responsible and accountable for overall operations of the Mechanical Department ensuring the projects are delivered within Safety, Quality and budgetary targets. Monitor the financial performance of the department against budgets so that areas of unsatisfactory performance are identified and rectified promptly to assist the QATAR SHIPYARD management to achieve overall company performance target.




Accountabilities
  1. Management of the day-to-day operations of the mechanical department both onboard and workshop to ensure that work processes are implemented as required complying relevant procedures.
  2. Prepare annual departmental manpower, opex and capex budgets
  3. Responsible for proper management of raw materials, equipment logistics, people resources & admin processes.
  4. Review the scope of works and establish production objectives, standards and production schedules to ensure timely delivery of all the projects undertaken.
  5. Liaise with other functions Project Managers / Client / Class Societies as deemed for discussion on project matters and resolve issues.
  6. Oversee department manpower, equipments and various other resource requirements and ensure optimum use of the same by ensuring cost control is exercised throughout the year.
  7. Develop systems and procedures that track and monitor productivity metrics 
  8. Engage and develop all personnel by initiating clear directives and drive continual improvement efforts, leading change management.
  9. Ensure that all activities are captured for billing purposes. Ensure all reports are prepared and reported to management
  10. Ensure value chain is met throughout.
  11. Authorize purchase of equipment, spares and materials as required.
  12. Ensure compliance to all relevant safety, quality and environmental management policies, procedures and controls across the section in order to guarantee employee safety, legislative compliance and a responsible environmental attitude.
  13. Employee should prioritize wellbeing of themselves and their colleagues while maintaining a safe and healthy work environment. Adhere to all health & safety protocols, participate in wellbeing & wellness programs, and promptly report any concerns regarding the wellbeing of oneself & others in order to foster a culture of best practice.

Qualifications, Experience and Job Skills

Qualifications:


•    Project management qualification is highly desirable.
•    A Diploma or a Degree in Marine Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Certificate of Competency (Marine Engineer Officer) Class 3 to 1 (Motor ship), or its equivalent.   


Experience:


•    A minimum of 10 years Experience in Shipyard including as head of any P&O section.
•    At least 3-4 years of managerial experience as head of a P&O department; total 10 years of relevant working experience in the Marine(ship repair/conversion/new building/offshore/onshore) industry with extensive knowledge in ship engines / various type of machining tools.

1.    Strong technical knowledge of engine / mechanical works both on-board vessels / offshore platforms including, but not limited to repair and fault diagnosis of machines, engine room operations, machine shop.
