About the job LIGHTING ENGINEER

PURPOSE OF THE JOB:
The purpose of the job of a Lighting Engineer is to design, plan, and implement effective lighting solutions that enhance the functionality, safety, and aesthetics of spaces, both indoors and outdoors. Their work involves understanding the requirements of a project, selecting appropriate lighting technologies, and ensuring that lighting systems are energy-efficient, compliant with regulations, and tailored to the specific needs of the environment.


JOB DESCRIPTION:


  • To conduct and support the delivery of complete Lighting networks/systems in major infrastructure and buildings projects.
  • Carry out complete lighting calculation and lighting designs, load schedule and feeder pillar schematics to required standards and quality.
  • Develop Lighting deliverables for all phases of a project including conceptual design, preliminary design, and detailed design
  • Develop the design of building lighting (normal and emergency), area lighting, DB schedule, lighting controls and schematics etc.
  • Develop typical lighting specifications, installation details general requirements, testing, and commodities.
  • Develop typical lighting calculations (software based), voltage drop calculations, short circuit and protective device coordination analyses.
  • Coordination with other Discipline Engineers as applicable.
  • Coordinate with CAD Technicians concerning project requirements and timelines.
  • Ensure statutory and regulatory requirements are met in all designs.
  • Support the project submittals and No Objection Certificates (NOC) process to the relevant Authorities.
  • Stay updated with relevant technical developments within the discipline.
  • Understand the contract and scope of project deliverables.
  • Ensure that Health & Safety is embedded into all work practices in line with company policies.
  • Provide regular work status updates, including risks or concerns, to Seniors or MEP manager.
  • Attend and contribute to team and project meetings as required
  • Complete accurate time sheets by set deadline.

KEY QUALIFICATIONS:


  • Bachelors degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent qualification
  • Candidate must have MME/ MMUP / UPDA.
  • International engineering licenses such as PE, CPEng, CEng is advantage.
  • At least 5-10 years of overall experience in electrical design development including Street lighting design.
  • Advanced proficiency in relevant software including AutoCAD, BIM/Revit, ETAP, DiaLux Evo, AGI32, CYMCAP, etc.
  • Must have thorough knowledge of industry practices and regulations.
  • Excellent written and oral communication ability to develop strong working relationships with the team and other disciplines.
  • Infrastructure engineering background with previous experience on infrastructure projects with understanding of the requirements for Street lighting, Landscape lighting, Tunnels/ underpass lighting and Indoor and outdoor lighting including performance of lighting calculation, Voltage drop calculations using PWA/Ashghal approved software.
  • Experience in civil 3D, Navisworks environment and BIM software as well as Revit software is also necessary
  • Must have good knowledge of QHDM, National Electrical Code, IEEE, ANSI, IESNA, NFPA and IEC and various local authority standards in the GCC like Kahramaa. Qatar Civil Defense, PWA, SEC, DEWA.
