Job Description

Opening in 2004, Carnegie Mellon University in Qatar is part of a reciprocal effort with the Qatar Foundation to bring excellent American educational undergraduate programs to the Middle East. Library Associate II  coordinates a variety of public service and clerical tasks and performs specialized tasks requiring an intermediate-level understanding of standard library operating practices and procedures.
Core responsibilities include:


  • Information and Reference Services: organize information desk shifts, coordinate public services tasks and projects, and respond to matters arising in the library.
  • Collection maintenance: lead collection evaluation, inventory, weeding, and overall management, suggest acquisitions, monitor interlibrary loan workflow, perform higher-level copy cataloging and metadata creation, and update item records in the ALMA system.
  • Assessment: run library systems’ reports, gather data from all library sources, and organize it on a dashboard; identify trends and make recommendations for areas of improvement.
  • Supervision: assist in hiring and supervising student employees.
  • Instruction and Outreach: develop presentations about library resources and services, oversee external communication, create library guides, and assist in organizing outreach events.
  • Other duties as assigned.
We seek an adaptable and proactive team member who takes initiative, tackles challenges with a positive mindset, and who will support the library mission through their work. Flexibility, passion for learning, excellent interpersonal, problem-solving, and communication skills, ability to work independently, and cultural sensitivity are vital qualities for the position.
Qualifications:
  • Associate degree required, MLIS preferred.
  • At least 3 years of library or related experience with administrative support, customer service, library information systems (ALMA and Springhare tools), and data entry.
  • Experience in project coordination, data analysis, technology support, and social media content creation.
