About the roleThe role sits within Group Legal in the Department which focuses on Aircraft Finance and Technical matters. You will primarily be responsible to review, analyse, draft and negotiate complex contracts (including in respect of aircraft and engine sale and leaseback transactions, aircraft financing transactions, aircraft and engine purchasing, and technical and maintenance matters) in conjunction with User and Sponsor departments to protect the interests of, and meet the business requirements of, Qatar Airways Group (“Qatar Airways”). You will be expected to provide accurate and business-oriented legal advice to Qatar Airways, and to act as Group Legal point of contact for assisting with relationship management of the relevant User department(s).
As part of your role, your key responsibilities will include (but shall not be limited to):
Negotiating, drafting and implementing a wide variety of simple and complex commercial contracts (including in respect of aircraft and engine sale and leaseback transactions, aircraft financing transactions, aircraft and engine purchasing, and technical and maintenance matters).
Otherwise assist in developing and managing strategic contracts in accordance with corporate requirements, and legal requirements and procedures to secure and protect the business interests of the company.
Working closely with clients across the Group, becoming their trusted legal and business advisor.
Assisting in developing and implementing suggestions to contract policies and procedures and their revision and improvement.
Liaising with external lawyers on aircraft finance and technical related matters.
Identifying issues and determining when the escalation procedure should be started.
Resolving any disputes which arise and identifying areas for improvement in company’s contracting processes.
Providing legal interpretations of contracts terms and conditions.
Performing other Department duties related to his/her position as directed by the Head of the Department.
About you
Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent with a minimum of 6 years of job-related experience in respect of aircraft and engine sale and leaseback transactions, aircraft financing transactions, aircraft and engine purchasing, and technical and maintenance matters.
Must be qualified as a lawyer in a recognized jurisdiction, preferably qualified in England or another common law jurisdiction.
Must have work experience in a law firm or in-house legal environment.
Must have aviation industry experience.
Must have demonstrated experience and a track record of successfully negotiating and managing contracts of the aforementioned types.
Experience of a multi-cultural environment in contracts management and legal.
Must have the ability to function under pressure and work on various projects simultaneously.
Fluent English speaking and writing skills.
