Job Title: Geologist
Location: Qatar
Reports To: Project Manager/Engineering Manager
Job Summary: The Geologist is responsible for executing and overseeing all geotechnical site investigation activities, ensuring proper sample preservation, supervising drilling and investigation works, and preparing necessary documentation and reports. The role involves coordinating with the engineering team to ensure that all project requirements are met efficiently and in accordance with relevant standards and safety protocols.
Key Responsibilities:
- Execution of Soil Investigation Activities:
- Plan and carry out soil investigations as per project requirements.
- Conduct geotechnical field testing and sampling to gather data for analysis.
Control of the Soil Investigation Activities:
- Monitor and manage soil testing and investigation works, ensuring accuracy and compliance with standards.
- Ensure that all activities comply with environmental and safety regulations.
Supervising Drilling and Investigation Works:
- Oversee the drilling teams and ensure that all drilling operations are conducted safely and effectively.
- Verify that drilling equipment is maintained and used according to best practices.
Arrangement of Job Schedule for Workers:
- Coordinate and organize the work schedules for the drilling and investigation teams.
- Ensure proper staffing levels for each phase of the investigation.
Preservation of Samples:
- Ensure the accurate collection, preservation, and labeling of geotechnical samples for analysis.
- Maintain a record of all samples, ensuring proper storage and handling.
Preparation of On-site Borehole Logs and Other Records:
- Prepare and maintain detailed borehole logs and field reports, ensuring the accuracy and completeness of data.
- Record all relevant geotechnical data and measurements taken during the investigation.
Reporting of Nonconformities:
- Identify and report any nonconformities encountered during the investigation to the engineering team.
- Propose corrective actions to resolve noncompliance issues.
Resource Requirements for Review and Approval:
- Assess and provide the Project Engineer with the required resources, including manpower, materials, and equipment.
- Work with the engineering team to ensure that adequate resources are available for smooth project execution.
Data Interpretation and Report Preparation:
- Analyze collected soil data to generate reports and recommendations.
- Prepare detailed geotechnical reports, presenting findings and providing insights to support engineering decisions.
Collaboration with Engineering Teams:
- Coordinate with engineers and other technical staff to integrate geotechnical data into project designs.
- Provide technical support during the design and construction phases of the project.
Site Safety Compliance:
- Ensure that all site activities comply with relevant safety standards and regulations.
- Promote a culture of safety awareness among the workers and site teams.
Client and Stakeholder Communication:
- Communicate with clients, contractors, and stakeholders regarding site activities and progress.
- Present geotechnical findings in meetings as required.
