BACKGROUND



The UNESCO Regional Office for the Gulf States and Yemen is seeking to engage a Communication Associate for the Office, as well as to provide support to the project “Youth Employment through Heritage and Culture in Yemen,” funded by the European Union. Under the overall supervision/direction of the Director of office and the Project Manager, the Communication Assistant is expected to carry out communication and visibility duties to enforce the visibility of the office and the EU-funded project through various activities and media.

TASKS AND EXPECTED OUTPUTS



Under the overall authority of the Director of UNESCO Regional Office in Doha and in close collaboration with various programme sectors and in particular in collaboration with the EU funded project team, the incumbent shall be responsible for the following tasks:
Office Communication Tasks:
- Develop, implement and monitor the Communication Strategy of the office, including the production of periodic reports (textual, infographic, and visual).
- Assist the Director of the Office in media communication, facilitating press inquiries and seeking opportunities for media, Op-Eds, articles and interviews.
- Strengthen networks of national, regional and international media, maintaining an updated database of journalists/media outlets, identifying and pursuing opportunities to publicize office initiatives, and engaging with media in press conferences, events, etc.
- Ensure wide media coverage and dissemination of organizational messages and activities, including through social media.
- Plan and implement communication activities to ensure UNESCO’s visibility, including developing success stories, using social media and UNESCO’s website.
- Support the preparation of events and communication campaigns, including covering in person events through photography and videography to support UNESCO’s visibility in the region.
- Draft written, digital, and physical communication materials in line with identified strategies to ensure high visibility and focus on human interest stories and measured impact.
- Manage all communication outlets of the office including website and social media in line with the guidelines set by the Department of Communication and Public Engagement (CPE) in HQ.
- Serve as the office’s focal point in UN Communication groups in the region, ensuring UNESCO’s contribution to and benefit from joint activities.
- Develop communication materials including graphics for social media, website, and other means of publication, focusing mainly on UNESCO’s activities and other human-interest stories.
EU-funded Yemen Project Tasks:
- Assist the Project Communication Officer in Yemen in the design, execution, and monitoring of communication and visibility activities for the EU-funded project in Yemen, highlighting the progress and achievements of the project including the conceptualization of communication campaigns, following up with the different implementation partners, engagement with the media, and the regular visibility production of textual, infographic, and visual materials.
- Revise communication written and graphic materials for social media, website, and publications focusing on human interest stories and thematic components, in line with the communication strategy of the project.
- Support the design and coordination of an international advocacy event planned for 2025 targeting donors, UN agencies, Yemeni stakeholders, and Yemenis in the diaspora.
- Support the coordination with consultants in the field working on documenting the implementation of the project and the production of photo and videos.
Perform any other tasks required for the successful completion and good visibility of activities of the office.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS



Education:



A university degree (BA or equivalent) in the field of Communication, Journalism, International relations or any other relevant filed.

Work Experience:



-A minimum of 04 years of relevant work experience in communication, information technology or international development.
-Work experience in the UN system would be an added advantage.

Language requirements:



-Excellent knowledge in English language -both spoken and written.
-Fluency in Arabic language-both written and spoken will be an advantage.
-knowledge in any other working languages of the UN would be an added advantage.

Skills and Competencies:



-Knowledge in the fields of access to information and international development
-Good analytical, planning, and organizational skills
- Good communication and interpersonal skills
- Proven ability to organize/coordinate events, workshops, conferences, etc.

DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS



CONDITIONS OF PAYMENT



UNESCO salaries in Doha are paid in the local currency (Qatari Riyals). Annual remuneration for the post is QAR. 230251. UNESCO Service Contract benefits include 30 days of annual leave as well as contribution to pension scheme health insurance upon proof of inscription.
