We are currently seeking an experienced professional to join our team in the role of Testing CoE Lead


  • HSBC Transformation in Finance (TiF) has recently appointed a new Global Head to define the role of Finance within the organisation. Reviewing the current capabilities and visions within Finance, and utilising these to design a robust and sustainable future state:

  • Finance Capabilities, Priorities
  • Dependencies and Deliverables
  • Communication and Planning
  • Resourcing and Workforce Planning
  • Agile Working

Principal responsibilities


  • Accountable for leading Testing CoE and associated resources, across multiple value streams.
  • Create, design and implement TCoE offshoring model
  • Work with upstream and downstream teams along the delivery model to facilitate efficiency
  • Test Automation adoption, delivered by "Tooling & Innovation“ pillar leading to increased test coverage and reduced demand of manual test resources.
  • A new sub-function (Tooling and Innovation Centre) will be part of TCoE and will develop/roll out Test Automation Tooling.
  • TCoE Test Cycles covered are Functional Testing, System Integration Testing and Regression and does not include Validation where SME analysis is required, or execution of UAT and PRs/DRs, which is currently supported by BA’s (not designated testing roles)

Customers / Stakeholders


  • Work with senior stakeholders across Finance and the broader HSBC business to ensure the ongoing Testing strategy is fully understood, supported, and aligned to Group strategy.
  • Represent Finance in Transformation (TiF) in offshoring Testing Requirements, ensuring these are appropriate and within the context of the model framework

Leadership & Teamwork


  • Build ‘trusted partnerships’ with both global functional stakeholders and key in-country senior management, influencing effectively at senior committee level (GCB3 and above).
  • Provide clear leadership, direction and support to enable fast, structured delivery.
  • To foster an effective and self-aware environment within the TCoE that is constantly seeking improvement in delivery capability.
  • Direct delivery timetables, ensuring Testing resources are effectively utilised to delivery against strategic objectives.
  • Engage extensively with key in-country senior stakeholders (e.g. COOs, CFOs, etc.) to build a comprehensive understanding of the local change landscape.
  • Clearly communicate progress, issues and successes to the Finance community.
  • Actively manage talent, leadership development and succession planning.
  • Display strong people management capabilities and act as a role model for the Group’s Values and Behaviours.

Operational Effectiveness & Control


  • Leadership over all matters pertaining to the TCoE and the management of operational risk.

Major Challenges


  • Managing potentially conflicting agendas, priorities and timelines across functions.
  • Complex stakeholder management across business lines and functions.
  • Coordinating the work of multiple teams within a stringent and structured deployment methodology adhering to HSBC best practice.

  • The role aims at retaining flexibility to be able to deal with a changing environment, both internally and externally driven, and at nurturing strong internal relationships.

Role Dimensions


  • The current headcount shown reflects the current team size, however this is expected to be flexible.

Management of Risk (Operational Risk / FIM requirements)


  • The jobholder will also continually reassess the operational risks associated with the role and inherent in the business, taking account of changing legal and regulatory requirements, operating procedures and practices, management restructurings, and the impact of new technology
  • This will be achieved by ensuring all actions take into account the likelihood of operational risk events, and by addressing any areas of concern in conjunction with line management and/or the appropriate department
  • The role will implement the Operational Risk control framework and per the BRCMs – “Three Lines of Defence”

Observation of Internal Controls (Compliance Policy / FIM requirements)


  • Maintain HSBC internal control standards, including timely implementation of internal and external audit points together with any issues raised by external regulators.
  • Observe and promote the use of the Group’s preferred programme management methods/tools.
  • The jobholder will implement the Group compliance policy by containing compliance risk in liaison with Global Head of Compliance, Global Compliance Officer, Area Compliance Officer or Local Compliance Officer. The term ‘compliance’ embraces all relevant financial services laws, rules and codes with which the business has to comply.
  • This will be achieved by adhering to all relevant processes/procedures and by liaising with Compliance department about new business initiatives at the earliest opportunity. Also and when applicable, by ensuring adequate resources are in place and training is provided, fostering a compliance culture and optimising relations with regulators.
