The multidisciplinary Department of Biological and Biomedical Sciences based in the Medical College in Karachi, Pakistan, strives to deliver high-quality undergraduate and graduate education cutting across and integrating the disciplines of Anatomy, Biochemistry, Physiology and Pharmacology. Aga Khan University invites applications for a fulltime position of Senior Research Assistant (Pharmacology) in the Department of Biological & Biomedical Sciences. 


Responsibilities:


You will be responsible to:


  • set up and conducting Pharmacology laboratory teaching sessions for undergraduate medical students and molecular biology sessions for graduate students (MPhil and PhD)
  • assist in conducting physiology and biochemistry sessions for undergraduate medical students as needed
  • assist in training and supporting elective students in research projects related to Pharmacology and other disciplines
  • ensure all equipment (teaching, research) are functional in BBS lab for pharmacology teaching  
  • assist faculty in carrying out research projects and in preparing manuscripts, research presentations and grant proposals mainly related to Pharmacology
  • assist in the establishment of central stock inventory system and the ordering of reagents and consumables for the BBS labs and the faculty research and following-up with concerned departments.
  • contribute to day-to-day operations of the lab and assist in developing standard operating procedures (SOPs) for BBS laboratories
  • keep abreast of latest technology and development pertaining to lab teaching and research
  • any other work assigned by the Director Labs, BBS.

Requirements:


You should have:


  • a degree BSc/MSc/MPhil/DPharm in the relevant field preferably Pharmacology
  • at least 2 years of work experience related to research and teaching
  • working knowledge in basic sciences with skills in laboratory techniques
  • excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills
  • the ability to multi-task several projects and work in fast paced environment
  • proven ability to work well with certain degree of autonomy and function successfully in a team environment  
  • proficiency in MS Office and statistical software.
