Job Description

Introduction:


The Aga Khan University was found in 1983 as Pakistan’s first private university, Aga Khan University is a not-for-profit institution and an agency of the Aga Khan Development Network. Starting in 2000, the University expanded to Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda, United Kingdom and Afghanistan. AKU began life as a health-sciences university.


The Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine at the Aga Khan University is a unique/distinguish establishment which serves the clinical laboratory of Aga Khan University Hospital with academic interest. This department is heavily engaged in undergraduate, postgraduate and technologist training programs. It provides professional training for higher degree in four major areas of Pathology (Chemical Pathology, Hematology, Histopathology, and Microbiology). Currently, there are approximately 61 Faculty, including 3 part time, 2 visiting faculty members, and 41 Residents.


Aga Khan University invites applications for the position of Research Assistant Pathology & Laboratory Medicine. The aim of this research is to develop a curriculum based on qualitative study findings.

This is a grant-funded contractual position.


Responsibilities:


You will be responsible for:


  • working in close coordination with the Principal Investigator (PI)
  • engage in conducting interviews for research purpose
  • entering qualitative data in software, coding it and conducting thematic analysis
  • contribute to innovation in learning, teaching, assessment, and curriculum development with the aim of meeting the needs of learners
  • develop collaborative relationships across teams and between Faculties
  • maintain dialogue with managers in the performance of posts of responsibility
  • design abstract, presentation, and report from the study findings

Requirements:


You should have:


  • MBBS Degree or at least Bachelor’s in science (Pharmacology, Toxicology, Public Health, Psychology, or related fields)
  • research experience in substance abuse, addiction studies, or behavioral sciences
  • good communication and interpersonal skills.
  • proficiency in MS Office, SPSS / R / Stata, and literature reviews
  • adaptability in a dynamic research environment.
  • strong in scientific writing, grant proposals, and research dissemination
  • maintain and develop academic, research and teaching skills
  • ability to organize workshops, manage timelines, and collaborate with stakeholders
  • interest in drug abuse prevention, education, and policy development
  • previous involvement in curriculum development projects or educational research initiatives is preferred
