Resident Medical Officer, Psychiatry

Introduction:


The Aga Khan University was found in 1983 as Pakistan’s first private university, Aga Khan University is a not-for-profit institution and an agency of the Aga Khan Development Network. Starting in 2000, the University expanded to Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda, United Kingdom and Afghanistan. AKU began life as a health-sciences university.


The Department of Psychiatry has a strong commitment to undergraduate and postgraduate education, research, and clinical service. The Department offers comprehensive psychiatric evaluation, consultation and treatment services in both inpatient and outpatient settings. Treatment modalities include pharmacotherapy, ECT, individual and family therapy and behavior management techniques. Subspecialties include Child & Adolescent Psychiatry and Geriatric Psychiatry. An occupational therapy programme is attached to the inpatient and day care services. Formal structured undergraduate teaching and postgraduate residency programmes are integrated into the academic functions of the Department.

Responsibilities:


You will be responsible to:


  • consulting Clinic/Off site clinic under supervision;
  • patient care responsibilities in psychiatric ward;
  • consultation for other specialties/E.R and on call coverage under senior faculty supervision;
  • supervision and teaching of Residents/Intern;
  • didactic /clinical teaching of medical students;
  • participation in research activities and conferences;
  • participation in departmental teaching activities like case conferences, journal clubs and grand rounds is mandatory. Residents will be expected to continue to work on their presentation skills throughout training;
  • any other responsibilities as designated by the Chair.

Requirements:


You should have:


  • MBBS degree from an institution recognized by PMDC/ PMC with minimum score of 55% and above.
  • FCPS Part 1 preferred (Not Mandatory).
  • One year experience as House Officer/ Intern with six months each in Medicine and allied specialties and Surgery and allied specialties.
