Resident Medical Officer, Microbiology

Introduction:


The Aga Khan University was found in 1983 as Pakistan’s first private university, Aga Khan University is a not-for-profit institution and an agency of the Aga Khan Development Network. Starting in 2000, the University expanded to Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda, United Kingdom and Afghanistan. AKU began life as a health-sciences university.


The Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine consists of five major sections namely Chemical Pathology, Haematology, Histopathology, Microbiology, and Molecular Pathology. Formal undergraduate, postgraduate and structured residency programs are integrated into the academic functions which are complemented and supported by research. It also serves the clinical laboratory of Aga Khan University Hospital which is well-equipped with state-of-the-art facilities and caters to the needs of the whole country through its tertiary lab at the main campus and 291 specimen collection units and 13 stat labs across Pakistan.

Responsibilities:


You will be responsible for:


  • performing routine laboratory procedures as per laboratory protocols under supervision
  • interpreting laboratory reports and communicating with physicians explaining their patient’s reports
  • taking clinical history on submitted specimen and informing culture results to physicians and infection control department
  • communicating with staff on reception and within laboratory about patients’ procedures
  • performing on-call duties as assigned
  • strictly adhering to safety regulations and quality control procedures

Requirements:


You should have:


  • MBBS; FCPS Part 1 (Mandatory) preferably in Pathology
  • 1 year house job / internship (Mandatory)
  • PMC Registration (Mandatory)
  • Previous laboratory experience (Additional)
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Eager to learn and be punctual
  • Ability to work under pressure
  • Be flexible to work on weekends, Public/ Bank holidays
  • Continuous Professional Development
