AKUH’s Clinical Laboratory is College of American Pathologists (CAP) accredited and caters to the need of the entire country through its tertiary lab at the main campus and 300+ specimen collection units and 13 stat labs across Pakistan. The Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine consists of five major sections namely Chemical Pathology, Haematology and Transfusion Medicine, Histopathology, Microbiology, and Molecular Pathology. Each section is academically driven and is highly engaged in research and undergraduate, postgraduate teaching and training.Aga Khan University invites application for the position of Research Specialist in the Department of Pathology & Laboratory Medicine.

ResponsibilitiesYou will be responsible to:


  • Assist in developing and implementing annual goals of the assigned area which are aligned to the overall departmental goals.
  • Provide academic / technical expertise for developing annual goals of the assigned area.
  • Liaison with granting agencies and finance for timely issuance of financial reports.
  • Understand and interpret the grant submission formats of different agencies and assist faculty members in preparing grant proposals accordingly.
  • Coordinate DeRC activities.
  • Present and provide detailed overview of the departmental research profile at Dept Faculty Meetings (research) to appraise faculty of research progress in the Department.
  • Perform and supervise assigned academic administration, education support and research activities.
  • Coordinating Teaching and Research activities of the Department.
  • Responsible for smooth functioning of the Microscopy Lab which includes technical activities, equipment maintenance, inventories of reagents & supplies with day-to-day monitoring.
  • Responsible for keeping the lab safe and operational. Implementing safety / Biosafety practices to comply with the Institution, National and International regulations for safe work practices.
  • Responsible for coordinating and organizing practical’s for MBBS/PHD/Elective students. Responsible for facilitating bench sessions on “Introduction to bacteriology” for 3rd year MBBS student’s clinical Microbiology rotation.
  • Assisting faculty in carrying out research project. Training and supervision of lab staff, day to day monitoring of departmental & research activities.
  • Assisting faculty, residents, and PhD students in external and internal grant submission & budget preparation for grant proposals.
  • Provide continuous feedback to junior staff members to keep them informed of their performance.

Requirements:


  • Masters in science/ management /commerce
  • 5-6 years of related work experience
  • previous experience of research in biomedical science / or independent administrative work experience
  • strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • ability to work independently
