Research Specialist, Department of Psychiatry

The Department of Psychiatry, Aga Khan University is striving to become a centre of excellence that provides leadership in areas of research, service provision and education in mental health. The psychiatric services include a 18-bedded acute care short-term adult psychiatric unit, a day care programme, 24 hours emergency service, and consultation/referral service, in addition to 33 weekly outpatient clinics. An occupational therapy programme is attached to the inpatient and day care services.

Aga Khan University invites application for the position of Research Specialist in the Department of Psychiatry.


Job Role / Responsibilities:


Reporting to the Manager, you are expected to work closely with the faculty of the Department in the development, execution, and evaluation of research projects. The candidate will look after all administrative work related to various studies and projects, develop research forms, develop and manage database and perform other task assigned by Principal Investigators in connection with research projects. Additionally, you will be responsible to:


  • develop research protocols, surveys, and data collection tools
  • support the faculty in Quantitative/qualitative analysis for the purpose of evaluation and research
  • assist in the recruitment and training of research staff for various studies.
  • prepare and maintain research data of the department
  • keep track of all the research related project including intramural and extramural grants.
  • preparate and compile various research study progress report
  • enter, edit and check data and also analyze through appropriate software.
  • prepare ERC submissions
  • assist PI and assigned supervisor for skills development of the research related staff
  • assist in administrative work of the department.

Eligibility Criteria / Requirements:


You should have:


  • a Master's degree in biostatistics & epidemiology or health policy management
  • at least than two years of relevant experience which deals with managing academic administration
  • excellent communication, interpersonal, and presentation skills
  • high level of initiative, reliability and maturity in problem solving skills
  • proficient in use of computer packages e.g. MS Office, Power Point, SPSS
  • excellent English writing skills including the ability to prepare minutes of meetings.
  • ability to analyze research data and prepare desired reports
  • excellent literature search skills
  • Proficient in writing study proposals & manuscripts.
