Research Associate, Centre for Regenerative Medicine and Stem Cell Research (CRM)

Introduction:


The Aga Khan University Medical College (MC) was established in 1983, as a part of the Aga Khan University’s Faculty of Health Sciences in Karachi, Pakistan. It works closely with the School of Nursing and Midwifery and the University Hospital to produce excellence in educational programs and medical practice.


The Centre for Regenerative Medicine and Stem Cell Research (CRM) is a part of the MC. The Aga Khan University (AKU) has partnered with the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF) - an internationally renowned Center for Regenerative Medicine and Stem Cell Research, in developing and evolving The Aga Khan University Centre for Regenerative Medicine and Stem Cell Research (CRM).


The Centre has a state-of-the-art facility for multi-disciplinary researchers to undertake cutting-edge research on stem cell and regenerative medicine. CRM nurtures young researchers (scientists and clinical scientists) in an environment that fosters learning and innovation.


CRM invites young and ambitious individuals who want to develop their careers as core laboratory facility researchers. The core laboratory provides services in molecular pathology, histopathology, imaging (e.g., confocal microscopy, laser capture, light/fluorescent microscopy, etc.), tissue culture (e.g. primary, stem cells, etc.), molecular and cell biology, and core laboratory management.

CRM is inviting applications for the position of Research Associate from outstanding and ambitious candidates with experience in a research laboratory, post-qualifications.


Responsibilities:


Reporting to the Director, CRM, and Director, Research & Teaching Laboratories, MC, the individual will be responsible for:


  • conducting wet lab research at AKU-CRM labs mainly on cell lines, viability assays, apoptosis, RT-PCR, western blotting
  • conducting daily, weekly, and monthly inventory of consumables/reagents required for the team
  • attending weekly meetings, journal clubs, and research in progress and presenting in these meetings as directed by the assigned faculty
  • conducting cell biology research and should be well-versed in tissue culture, molecular biology techniques, PCR, qPCR, Western blotting, flow cytometry, and related methods
  • any other assignment as directed by the Directors.

Eligibility Criteria / Requirements:


Candidates must have:


  • a Master’s degree in the field of Biological Science/Molecular Biology or a related field of research
  • a minimum of two to three years experience in a research laboratory, post-qualification
  • strong organizational skills with the ability to handle multiple tasks/projects assigned by the Directors
  • excellent computer usage with command over Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, and Word
  • strong interpersonal and communication skills (spoken and written)
  • ability to follow instructions promptly and work independently with minimal supervision
  • ability to work under pressure.
