The specific job responsibilities can vary depending on the company and the region, but generally, an RSM in a pharma business is responsible for:


  1. Developing and executing sales strategies: The RSM is responsible for developing and implementing a sales strategy in collaboration with senior management that aligns with the company's overall goals and objectives including developing and executing sales plans, setting sales targets, and identifying new business opportunities.
  2. Leading and managing a sales team: The RSM is responsible for managing, and motivating a team of sales representatives to achieve sales targets. This includes setting performance goals, providing regular feedback and coaching, and implementing performance improvement plans when necessary.
  3. Building and maintaining relationships with customers: The RSM is responsible for building and maintaining relationships with each customer, including healthcare professionals, hospitals, pharmacies, and other relevant stakeholders in the healthcare industry. This involves understanding customer needs and preferences, developing customer-centric sales plans, and providing exceptional customer service.
  4. Conducting market research: The RSM is responsible for conducting market research to identify trends, opportunities, and challenges in the pharma industry. This includes analyzing sales data, monitoring competitor activities, and conducting customer surveys.
  5. Ensuring compliance with regulations: The RSM is responsible for ensuring that all sales activities are conducted in compliance with industry regulations and company policies. RSM will be reporting to Sales Head/National Sales Manager and remain in active communication with him regarding policy matters, specific permissions related to sales matters, target setting and achieving, recovery related problems and any misappropriation on behalf of sales staff reporting him.

Job Specifications


Education and experience: A bachelor's degree in Premedical background shall be preferred. However, business administration, or a related field is usually required, along with 5-6 years of experience in pharmaceutical sales or marketing, including 1-3 years of experience in a managerial or leadership role.


Leadership and management skills: The RSM should have strong leadership and management skills, including the ability to motivate and inspire a team, set clear expectations and goals, provide constructive feedback, and develop team members.


Sales and marketing expertise: The RSM should have a deep understanding of the pharmaceutical market and be able to develop and execute sales strategies that align with company goals. They should also have a strong knowledge of marketing and branding strategies to promote the company's products and services.


Communication and interpersonal skills: The RSM should have excellent communication skills, including the ability to communicate complex information to different audiences, negotiate effectively, and build strong relationships with key stakeholders.


Analytical skills: The RSM should have strong analytical skills, including the ability to analyze sales data, market trends, and customer insights to inform sales strategies and decisions.


Compliance knowledge: The RSM should have a strong knowledge of industry regulations and be able to ensure that sales activities are conducted in compliance with these regulations.
