Introduction:


The Aga Khan University was found in 1983 as Pakistan’s first private university, Aga Khan University is a not-for-profit institution and an agency of the Aga Khan Development Network. Starting in 2000, the University expanded to Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda, United Kingdom and Afghanistan. AKU began life as a health-sciences university.


The Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine at the Aga Khan University is a unique/distinguish establishment which serves the clinical laboratory of Aga Khan University Hospital with academic interest. This department is heavily engaged in undergraduate, postgraduate and technologist training programs. It provides professional training for higher degree in four major areas of Pathology (Chemical Pathology, Hematology, Histopathology, and Microbiology). Currently, there are approximately 61 Faculty, including 3 part time, 2 visiting faculty members, and 41 Residents.


Aga Khan University invites applications for the position of, Post Doc Fellow (Data Scientist) Pathology & Laboratory Medicine. This study aims to build sustainable capacity in VBD research in Pakistan, across the interrelated domains of viral genomics, pathogenesis, vector biology, ecology, and disease epidemiology, using a One Health collaborative, multisectoral, and transdisciplinary research approach.


This is a grant-funded contractual position.

Responsibilities:


The candidate will be an integral part of the research with responsibilities including:


  • The incumbent will play a pivotal role in advancing healthcare research through the application of advanced data analytics.
  • This position involves collaborating with clinical researchers, healthcare providers, and multidisciplinary teams to extract, analyse, and interpret complex healthcare data.
  • Design and implement data analysis plans, defining objectives and key performance indicators. Utilize programming languages (e.g., Python, R) to automate data cleaning and preprocessing.
  • Conduct in-depth EDA to identify trends and anomalies, using advanced visualization tools.Develop and deploy machine learning models and algorithms for outcome prediction.
  • Create and present comprehensive reports and dashboards to stakeholders.
  • Collaborate with clinical researchers, healthcare providers, and data analysts to integrate data solutions into research studies and patient care.
  • Assist and facilitate workshops on data analytics and use of big data in vector borne diseases.
  • Stay updated on emerging trends in data science and apply cutting-edge techniques.
  • Provide guidance and training to junior data scientists and analysts.
  • Any other task assigned by the supervisor.

Requirements:


  • The individual should have degree in MCS/MS Computer science / Data science M.Sc. in Statistics
  • 3-5 years of related work experience
  • Excellent Command on PYTHON/STATA/R/SPSS and other Statistical Packages.
  • Proficient in Spreadsheets and power point presentation.
  • Relevant experience in data analysis, preferably in healthcare.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities with a keen attention to detail.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
