Position: Library Assistant – Faculty of Arts and Sciences

The FAS library will serve as a hub of learning and research activities at 12th floor of the University Centre at Stadium Road Campus in Karachi.

Job Role / Responsibilities:  


You will be responsible for:                                    


  • performing library front desk duties for circulation i.e. check-in, check-out of books, membership for library patron, etc.
  • assisting users in using Online Public Access Catalogue
  • providing first-hand guidance/assistance to library patrons in searching and retrieval of library materials
  • cataloguing and classification of library materials by using MARC
  • processing of technical books processing (barcode/pasting, spine label/pasting, etc.)
  • maintaining library collections (sorting, shifting, overseeing, shelving, shelf reading, etc.)
  • data entry in various library systems (Symphony, eCommons, etc.)
  • maintaining discipline within the library premises.

Requirements:


You should have:


  • a Bachelor’s degree preferably in Library and Information Science or a related field
  • at least 2 years of work experience preferably in an academic setup
  • excellent computer skills. Specific job assignments may require knowledge and/or experience with word processing, spreadsheet, and/or database software applications
  • ability to work collaboratively as a team member and serve the library users in an effective and courteous way
  • commitment to service, continuous improvement, and innovation with a strong work ethic
  • aptitude to learn new things, willingness to work hard, and good interpersonal skills
  • strong customer service attitude
  • willing to work in rotations (shifts and weekends)
