The FAS library will serve as a hub of learning and research activities at 12th floor of the University Centre at Stadium Road Campus in Karachi.

Job Role / Responsibilities:  


You will be responsible for assisting the FAS Librarian in the overall management of the library; Implementation of the FAS library’s policies and procedures; Planning and delivering information literacy programms for FAS users; Working with FAS faculty collegially to integrate resources-based learning; Maintaining library usage statistics; and assist in the preparation of reports for senior management of FAS and Office of the University Librarian.


You will be responsible to:                                    


  • assist FAS Librarian in planning, implementing, marketing and evaluating the library’s information literacy programs
  • conduct library orientation sessions for FAS users
  • conduct Information Literacy programs for the FAS users
  • assist FAS Librarian in collection development which includes the acquisition and subscription to the library books, databases, periodicals, etc. for FAS Library Karachi.
  • populating FAS content on AKU Institutional Repository (eCommons).
  • develop and update faculty profiles at Pure Portal.
  • develop and update LibGuides
  • contribute to LibChat representing FAS Library
  • contact person between library and faculty for all general/specific inquiries
  • participate in various faculty/departmental meetings
  • supervise work related to Symphony ILS for FAS Library
  • check the quality of data entered, uploaded related to FAS print & online resources
  • identify system-related issues and coordinate with Systems team to discuss and resolve these issues.
  • provide support for FAS faculty, students, and staff regarding plagiarism checking using Turnitin
  • create users’ accounts for plagiarism checking

Eligibility Criteria / Requirements:


You should have:


  • Masters in Library & Information Science or equivalent degree from HEC recognized institution
  • at least Five years experience in a managerial/supervisory position in an academic / healthcare setting
  • Excellent practical knowledge of academic libraries’ information resources and databases.
  • Sound knowledge of information technology applications in libraries including.
  • Practical knowledge of international bibliographic standards including MARC, Dublin Core, RDA, LC, etc., LibGuides
  • Working knowledge of web-based content management systems, including Microsoft SharePoint.
  • Practical experience in the development and delivery of information literacy programs.
  • Experience supervising library professionals and paraprofessional staff.
  • Knowledge of health science databases and MESH will be an added advantage.
