Job Role / Responsibilities:
reporting to the Manager EHS, the incumbent will be responsible for designing, updating, implementing, and monitoring life safety and Fire Prevention Management Plans, Policies, and Procedures. The incumbent will ensure that all Life Safety activities are in compliance with the guidelines on standards of the JCIA/ISO and national /local regulatory bodies. The incumbent will also supervise the Inspection/Maintenance Program of Life Safety equipment through Fire Staff and in consultation with the Facility Management Division and participate in the implementation/monitoring of the AKU Construction Safety Program.
- preparing the safety & life safety management plan and policy/ procedures as and when required keeping abreast of latest development
- participating in the implementation, monitoring and improvement of AKU Construction Safety Programreviewing Design Drawings and other details of new buildings/services to make life-safety input/reviewensuring that the inspections and maintenance of life safety intimation and suppression systems are carried out by the Facility Management division as per set standard
- ensuring Fire response vehicle serviceability and coordinating with maintenance and transport departments as and when required in order to achieve minimum downtime
- carrying out a Safety Risk Analysis and Action Plan in consultation with Manager EHS and users
- supervising and administering a well-trained workforce to prevent Fire incidents
- ensuring his staff response in fire emergencies is within set standards and taking charge, where applicablesupervising and conducting the inspection, and maintenance program of firefighting equipment by Fire staff
- supervising and ensuring inspection, maintenance & training programs for off campuses' Fire Equipment
- managing and supervising departmental store and conduct regular inventory checks
- coordinating and conducting regular training for AKU staff as per the training schedule and conduct regular Fire and Evacuation drills / Practices.
- conducting life safety-related incident investigation
- conducting & participating in the environmental rounds, life safety surveys, and audits as assigned by his superior
- responsible for preparing Life Safety staff rota and work schedules
- responsible for preparing/implementing Life Safety JCIA/ISO standards
- liaising with the City Fire Brigade, Civil Defence, and other governmental and non-governmental agencies dealing with EHS and life safety issues
- planning, Managing, and supervising the Outreach EHS Program
- planning & Monitoring activities of EHS officer
- any other task assigned by the Manager EHS / Director S&S
Requirements:
- science Graduate or DAE (Diploma of Associate Engineer)
- 5 to 7 year’s practical experience of working in the field of environmental health and safety.
- possession of Safety Training Certificates will be considered as an additional qualification.
- good knowledge of safety inspection particularly building fire safety.
- good Managerial /Supervisory and Administrative skills.
- good communication, interpersonal, and presentation skills.
- ability to develop Safety guidelines and policies
- proficient in use of computer packages, especially MS Office
- good understanding and knowledge of NFPA and local Fire Safety Standards.
- knowledge on reading Civil/Electrical/Mechanical drawings with particular reference to Fire Equipment/Systems
