Responsibilities
AKUH is seeking a seasoned Technologist in Neurophysiology to join our team. The ideal candidate will play a crucial role in ensuring high standards of patient care, managing advanced neurophysiology procedures, and leading a team of technologists to excellence.
You will be responsible to:
- Perform and interpret a variety of neurophysiological tests, including electroencephalograms (EEGs), electromyography (EMG), nerve conduction studies, video EEG (VEEG), and long EEGs. Assist with polysomnography (PSG) and intraoperative neurophysiology monitoring (IONM) as needed.
- Accurately analyze test results, prepare detailed reports for physicians, and participate in clinical discussions to aid in diagnosis and treatment planning.
- Supervise all technologists, administrative staff, and trainee technologists, ensuring smooth functioning of the lab and overseeing unit operations and staff competency.
- Assist in developing and maintaining protocols aligned with JCIA and ISO standards, ensuring adherence to hospital vision and compliance. Develop a vision for improvement in the quality and quantity of all studies performed.
- Ensure patient satisfaction and safety through cost-effective care practices, timely reporting, and effective quality process management.
- Strategically plan staffing, ensure safe staffing patterns, regularly evaluate, and motivate staff to maintain high-quality service standards.
- Organize and coordinate continuing education programs for staff, track training opportunities, and facilitate attendance at internal training sessions and conferences.
- Oversee the selection, purchase, and maintenance of neurophysiology equipment, collaborating with the biomedical team to ensure proper handling and updates. Evaluate needs and make recommendations to ensure optimal resource utilization.
- Collaborate with senior staff and physicians on research projects, coordinate data collection, and support ongoing research and education activities.
- Continuously develop personal technical and leadership skills, maintain a professional profile, and keep abreast of the latest technologies and trainings in neurophysiology.
Requirements
You should have:
- Minimum Bachelor of Science degree. Preferable: Added MBA or other management qualification.
- Successful completion of an approved neurophysiology training program.
- Registration with an accredited recognized neurophysiology organization (e.g., ABRET).
- At least five years of related experience as a Neurophysiology Technologist, including work with paediatric and adult patients. At least one year of supervisory management experience.
- Preferable: Experience in intraoperative monitoring, long-term EEG, and polysomnography (PSG) monitoring.
- Demonstrated ability to lead teams and liaise effectively with all staff in the department and the hospital.
- Proficiency in handling discretionary information and responding to queries related to NP lab functioning.
- Ability to supervise a multidisciplinary team.
- Proficiency in organizing data and generating timely reports.
- Strong analytical and decision-making skills.
- Well-developed communication and interpersonal skills, with fluency in written and spoken English.
- Familiarity with Joint Commission International Accreditation (JCIA) standards and ISO guidelines.
