Position Title: Environmental Planner
Location: Muscat, Oman
Reporting to: Program Director
General Description of Role and Responsibilities:
- Conduct environmental impact assessments (EIAs) to evaluate the potential effects of development projects on the environment, including air and water quality, wildlife habitat, and ecosystems.
- Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal environmental regulations and standards.
- Develop land use plans and policies that aim to minimize the environmental impact of development while supporting sustainable growth.
- Promote sustainability and resilience by integrating green infrastructure, conservation areas, and other eco-friendly practices into land use plans and projects.
- Engage with stakeholders, including community members, local government officials, and developers, to gather input, address concerns, and build support for environmental planning initiatives.
- Work to protect and enhance natural habitats and biodiversity through conservation efforts and wildlife corridors.
- Collaborate with agencies and organizations to manage natural resources, including forests, water resources, and agricultural land, while ensuring sustainability and protection.
- Formulate policies, ordinances, and regulations that guide land use and development with an environmental focus.
- Use Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and data analysis tools to map environmental features and assess their impact.
- Continuously monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of environmental plans and projects to adapt strategies as needed.
- Communicate findings, recommendations, and plans to the public and government bodies through presentations and reports.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the client and the line manager.
Qualifications, Experience, Knowledge and Skills:
- Bachelors degree in civil engineering, environmental planning, environmental science, urban planning, or equivalent.
- A postgraduate degree in Engineering or an MBA will be considered a plus.
- At least 10+ years of experience working on large scale green field infrastructure development projects.
- Ideally, a combination of Development experience and more traditional PMO experience.
- PMP, PMI, CIOB or equivalent certification is strongly preferred.
- Strong track record in delivering projects in a fast-moving and challenging environment.
- Proven experience in building & infrastructure and leading high-performing teams.
- Computer literate in Microsoft Office applications, including Excel and Word.
- Excellent command of written and spoken English.
