APM Terminals

APM Terminals plays an important role in enabling the global Maersk Ocean and Logistics network as well as serving other Shipping Lines, Beneficial Cargo Owners, Freight Forwarders, intermodal logistics providers and integrating with a wide variety of local port authorities, customs and government bodies across our global network of transshipment, import and export gateway terminals.
In support of the broader Maersk strategy, we are accelerating the transformation of our business from a portfolio of independently operated terminals into a safer, better, bigger global terminals operator

This position is responsible for the legal support to the APM West Med Terminals, i.e. three of the most critical container terminals in the network of APM Terminals and Maersk, located in Tangier and Algeciras. This essentially means being a crucial business partner to the West Med management on all legal matters related to the business.


Key responsibilities: 



•    Leading a team of three legal and claims professionals and being responsible for legal and claims matters at the terminals
•    Proactively identifying and addressing legal issues in a pragmatic and risk-based fashion
•    Advising on local law and regulatory requirements
•    Partnering with Procurement and other business functions to advise and support on drafting of commercial contracts and other legal documents as well as negotiations
•    Participating as a key member in project teams working on growth opportunities and terminal related projects 
•    Safeguarding Maersk’s values, interests and reputation and "getting the best possible deal" across the line
•    Managing concessions, leases and big construction matters 
•    Handling and overseeing litigation 
•    Engaging and managing external counsel
•    Advising on and attending various engagements with authorities, together with other senior leaders 
•    Provide trainings to (non-legal) colleagues on relevant topics such as commercial contracting, implementing
•    legal improvement projects, mostly focused on standardization and quality control
•    Working effectively with other departments and functions such as Investments, Finance, Tax, Insurance, Compliance, etc.
•    Support on corporate matters


We are looking for. 



•    Master of Laws or equivalent university qualification.
•    Minimum of 10 years of legal experience, preferably within ports, infrastructure or logistics 
•    Project management and transactional experience will be considered as a strong advantage
•    Strong leadership skills and experience with leading a team 
•    Solid experience with general corporate, regulatory and commercial legal issues
•    Experience with drafting and negotiating contracts; drive to understand commercial context
•    Commercial mind-set, drive to deliver high quality results, high level of integrity
•    Effective communicator (able to explain complex legal issues to non-legal colleagues in a simple way), strong personality, empathy, personal tact 
•    Well organized, punctual
•    Impeccable command of English language; French and/or Arabic is a strong advantage. Spanish is also considered an advantage.
