Job Description

ROLE PURPOSE:


The role holder focuses on ensuring child safeguarding and accountability within humanitarian programs, particularly through the prevention of sexual exploitation and abuse (PSEA). The role involves facilitating feedback sessions with children, raising awareness about their rights, conducting risk assessments, and ensuring adherence to safeguarding policies. The individual will also respond to and report any safeguarding violations, supporting victims with sensitive, age-appropriate assistance. This position plays a key role in promoting a safe and respectful environment for children and vulnerable populations in humanitarian settings.

KEY AREAS OF ACCOUNTABILITY:


  1. AAP (Accountability to Affected Populations):
  • Facilitate regular feedback sessions with children to gather their needs and priorities.
  • Raise awareness among children and young people about their rights and expected conduct of aid workers.
  • Conduct participatory consultation sessions using child-friendly language and active listening.
  • Receive and refer complaints related to safeguarding breaches and SEA to the PSEA focal point as needed.
  • Promote and distribute child-friendly materials promoting AAP and children’s rights.
  • Implement and manage feedback channels, ensuring proper reporting and follow-up.
  1. PSEA and Child Safeguarding:
  • Conduct regular PSEA and child safeguarding training and awareness sessions for program staff and partners.
  • Raise awareness on PSEA and child safeguarding with beneficiaries and their caregivers, emphasizing reporting channels.
  • Conduct weekly field visits to all SCI and partners’ centers and fill out observation checklist and visit reports
  • Conduct risk assessments for activities involving children and caregivers, proposing appropriate mitigation measures.
  • Monitor compliance with safeguarding policies and procedures through regular visits to program sites.
  • Report safeguarding incidents in line with organizational protocols and provide necessary support to victims and notify the Safeguarding coordinator about SEA cases and serious CS violations in line with the internal procedures of the organization.
  • Receive in person SEA and all child safeguarding allegations from children/ caregivers and MAKANI’s staff personal and coordinate age/ gender / disability sensitive response to the victims.
  1. Gender Mainstreaming and Gender-based violence
  • Support staff training on gender and the implementation of the organization's Gender Action Plan.
  • Set up a network of trained GBV focal points in MAKANI centers to ensure daily alignment of interventions with GBV principles.
  • Capacitate Makani partners on Gender Based Violence Safe Identification & Referrals for Girls at risk / survivors of GBV through delivery of trainings and coaching on inter-agency referral mechanisms to refer identified GBV survivors.
  • Liaise with GBV focal points in MAKANI centers on daily basis and with GBV partners in the area to ensure linkages between adolescent girls’ package and GBV services where needed.
  • Ensure that GBV related referral procedures are adequate and applied through regular monitoring visits to the MAKANI center in the governorate.

QUALIFICATIONS 


  • Degree in social sciences, social work, psychology, development studies or similar field
  • Fluent in Arabic and English

EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS


  • 1 to 2 years’ experience in working with Child Safeguarding or Child Protection or PSEA in a humanitarian context
  • Minimum 1 year’ experience in delivering training and capacity building for large-scale programmes, in both emergency and development contexts
  • Proven integrity, objectivity, and professional competence
  • Demonstrated sensitivity and knowledge of cultural and gender issues.
  • Demonstrated experience of working directly with local communities.
  • Proven communication skills
  • Highly developed planning, facilitation, communication and diplomacy skills to engage all teams at all levels
  • Proven dedication to staff development 
  • Experience of solving complex issues through analysis, definition of clear way forward and ensuring buy-in
  • Ability to operate as part of a team in a multi-cultural, values driven work environment
  • Ability to manage a complex and diverse workload and to work to tight deadlines
  • Understanding of Save the Children’s vision and mission and a commitment to its objectives.
