- Plan the shipment’s means of transport, routing, and packing:
o Investigate and plan the most appropriate route for the shipment, taking into account the nature of the goods, cost, transit time and security;
o Arrange appropriate packing, taking into consideration the climate, weight, nature of goods, cost, and delivery of goods at final destination;
o Deal with special arrangements for transporting delicate cargoes, high value goods such as livestock, perishables, cold chain, food and medical supplies under the manager supervision;
o Negotiate transportation and handling costs.
- Follow up closely with suppliers, internal departments and customers to ensure the smoothness of operations to meet deadlines:
o Utilize e-services and internet technology to enable real time tracking of goods;
o Maintain communication and control through all phases of the journey.
o Work closely with customers, colleagues and third parties to ensure smooth operations;
o Negotiate when difficult situations arise to be able to meet timescales.
- Arrange and complete all associated paperwork needed to be able to proceed with shipment:
o Obtain, check, and prepare documentation to meet customs requirements, packing specifications, and compliance with overseas countries regulations;
o Maintain current knowledge of relevant legislation, political situations and other factors that could affect movement of freight;
o Collect all required documents concerning the nature of goods being imported from abroad and makes sure they are legal and legitimate;
o Arrange insurance and assist client in event of claim by collecting all the documents required.
