Job Description

ROLE PURPOSE: 


The Food Security and Nutrition (FSN) Technical Coordinator will be responsible for leading the technical design, implementation, and quality assurance of food security and nutrition programs for specific consortium while also providing technical support in the food security and nutrition thematic areas in close collaboration with the Food Security and Livelihoods and Social Protection Technical Advisor (FSL TA). This role involves providing technical guidance, and capacity building to ensure that all interventions are evidence-based, aligned with global SCI best practices, and effectively meet the needs of vulnerable populations. 


The coordinator will play a pivotal role in both developmental and emergency contexts, ensuring that food security and nutrition interventions are integrated, responsive, and adaptable to changing environments. The role will also involve significant coordination with other sectors, partners, and stakeholders to deliver holistic programming that addresses both immediate and long-term needs.


CHILD SAFEGUARDING: 


Level 3:  the post holder will have contact with children and/or young people either frequently (e.g. once a week or more) or intensively (e.g. four days in one month or more or overnight) because they work country programs; or are visiting country programs; or because they are responsible for implementing the police checking/vetting process staff.


SCOPE OF ROLE: 


Reports to: Chief of Party while closely working with FSL and Social Protection Advisor 


Staff reporting to this post: None; works closely with partners nutrition staff 


KEY AREAS OF ACCOUNTABILITY:


Project management:


  • Contribute to the overall consortium planning including development of implementation, HR and procurement plans as well as stakeholders engagement plan with the focus on food security and nutrition (FSN).
  • In close collaboration with the FSL focal points in 3 area offices, ensure that consortium partner’s have proper technical implementation of FSN projects with the highest technical quality and in timely manner. 
  • Develop programs and emergency response ensuring alignment with organizational strategies and sector best practices
  • Actively participate in data compilation and analysis of information used to determine vulnerability and impact and contribute to the establishment of transparent targeting criteria.
  • Contribute to the development of timely reports for internal and external use on the status of on-going food security and nutrition activities in close coordination with local partners at field and national level.
  • Liaise on an ad-hoc basis with finance, logistics, and administration to guarantee the smooth running of activities
  • Contribute to the budget revision exercise led by the chief of party (CoP) to reflect on the reported spending of the project’s food security and nutrition budget lines for partners and highlight any red flag or any consideration to be in place. 
  • Regularly visit project sites to ensure that teams and partners are appropriately supported on the FSN part 

Technical Guidance and Quality Assurance for the consortium


  • With the CoP and FSL TA develop specific technical guidance related to the consortium FSN activities to ensure high-quality implementation of food security and nutrition activities. This includes leading the development of technical and data collection tools, methodologies, databases, and standards to guide programming.
  • Contribute to the assessment of technical capacity building needs among SCI staff and partners and work jointly with the CoP and TA for the development and delivery of capacity-building initiatives as defined by the capacity building plan. Ensure that teams have the technical knowledge and skills required to implement food security and nutrition programs effectively.
  • Lead FSN internal technical working group for the consortium to ensure all partners are engaged in the technical harmonization and technical discussions.
  • Ensure revision of partners technical materials and advise on the best way to move forward.
  • With CoP and the FSL technical advisor, contribute to the analysis and evaluation of monitoring data to understand impact of project and identify lessons learned for future programming
  • With MEAL specialist contribute to the development of the MEAL framework, and contribute to all MEAL processes including evaluation and lessons learnt for all elements related to the FSN. 
  • Revise learning complied on FSN, validate and suggest corrective measures for the ongoing implementation. 

External relationships/Representation


  • Participate in external coordination meetings with different stakeholders (sector, local authorities, local actors) as requested by the CoP and FSL TA.
  • Support the CoP and FSL TA in maintaining programmatic links with key stakeholders such as governmental bodies, UN agencies, INGOs and other local NGOs, and identify opportunities and ensure Save the Children’s participation in key activities of the local level.

Strategic technical guidance for SCI


  • Coordinate rapid needs assessments related to FSN thematic areas and oversee the design and implementation of emergency cash responses that align with Save the Children’s standards and best practices.
  • With the FSL technical advisor contribute to the technical design and development of food security and nutrition programs, ensuring alignment with organizational strategies and sector best practices. This includes both developmental programs and emergency responses.
  • Support the CoP and the FSL TA in the continuous assessment of mid and long term FSN needs and ensure that it is appropriately reflected in internal/External meetings.
  • The post holder will also support technically SCI FSN projects’ implementation as needed. 
  • Contribute to the revision of FSN related parts in SCI reports as requested by FSL TA.
  • Support the development and/or revision of FSN related tools as needed beyond the consortium work
  • Support Capacity building for SCI staff and partners around FSN thematic topics as needed

General

QUALIFICATIONS 


  • A Degree in Nutrition, Public Health, International Relations, Development studies,Food Security, or similar fields
  • Fluency in written and spoken Arabic and English

EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS


  • Minimum 3-5 years of experience in development programs, preferably working in Food Security, Basic Assistance, Health, or Nutrition 
  • Experience in working with local organizations and local communities
  • Experience in data management/analysis platforms (asset)
  • Experience in field work and community mobilization
  • Experience in Facilitating trainings (asset)
  • Good time management skills
  • Computer skills (especially Excel)
  • Strength in interpersonal, communication and presentation skills
