Job Description



Overall Position Summary:



In response to referrals from local public safety agencies, this position will work closely with the community to provide support and intervention services to individuals and families affected by substance use disorder. The Community Support Specialist will exhibit a strong desire to form connections and make a positive impact within Marion County by collaborating with community partners to promote community safety and well-being.

Primary Duties:



Assist in identifying community needs and developing and implementing prevention and intervention strategies to assist individuals affected by Opioid Use Disorder (OUD), Substance Use Disorder (SUD), and/or mental health issues. Conduct assessments and provide intervention and referral services to individuals identified through street outreach efforts or by local public safety agencies such as the jail, police, EMS, and treatment providers. Connect individuals and families to community resources, such as mental health services, housing assistance, substance use treatment programs, and employment opportunities. Conduct follow-up services to ensure the ongoing well-being and safety of individuals and families.
Collect and analyze data (interventions, services provided, referrals made, progress, follow-up results, etc.) to measure the effectiveness of our programs and resources and identify areas for improvement. Ensure that all contact and case management information is added into our database regularly and for all program participants. Provide a monthly report of interventions, referrals, and findings to your direct supervisor Marion County Fiscal Court, City Council, and the Heartland Coalition.
Build and maintain relationships with local community leaders, organizations, and stakeholders to foster a culture of inclusivity and respect. Participate in multidisciplinary teams, meetings with public safety officials, Heartland Coalition, and other social service providers. Collaborate with the advisory committee to create innovative programs and services that address the specific needs of our community. Engage in outreach efforts, including community events and presentations, to enlighten the community about efforts being conducted and findings within our local communities. Provide or coordinate training for local public safety agencies and community partners on topics related to crisis intervention, trauma-informed care, and community resources. Perform other related services as deemed appropriate in relation to assisting those struggling with Opioid Use Disorder, Substance Use Disorder, and mental health issues.
Qualifications:
A Bachelor’s Degree in Social Work, Psychology, or related field from an accredited university or college. Have five (5) or more years of experience working with individuals diagnosed with Opioid Use Disorder, Substance Use Disorder, and/or mental health issues. Have experience in areas such as crisis intervention, trauma-informed care principles, criminal justice, peer support, and/or family and community engagement. Possess strong analytical skills, including the ability to collect and analyze data to measure the effectiveness of programs and services. Have excellent communication, listening, and interpersonal skills. Have the ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a team. Exhibit a commitment to promoting a culture of inclusivity and respect within Marion County. Have a willingness to be flexible with scheduling. Must be self-motivated with the ability to make independent decisions. Must clear a background check and drug test. Must have a valid Kentucky driver’s license and a clean driving record.
Hours: 8 AM to 4:30 PM, but will vary at times to weekends and nights based on being on call.
Reports To: County Judge Executive
Office Location: Lebanon/Marion County Career Center and within the community
*Salary Range: $ 67,000 to 77,000 Based on Education and Experience. Benefits/Retirement: CERS Retirement/Benefits*
