Job Description

ROLE PURPOSE: 


Under the direct supervision of the Case Management Officers (and overall guidance of the Child Protection Coordinator and Programme Manager), the Case Worker will be responsible for implementing activities related to individual case management through home-based approach activities. The Case Worker will be also responsible depending on the grant’s activities to implement Focused Psychosocial Support (FPSS) for groups of children and emotional support sessions for caregivers, targeting vulnerable children and families including refugees, returnees and children in host communities. 


In the event of a major humanitarian emergency, the role holder will be expected to work outside the normal role profile and be able to vary working hours accordingly.


CHILD SAFEGUARDING: 


Level 3:  the post holder will have contact with children and/or young people either frequently (e.g. once a week or more) or intensively (e.g. four days in one month or more or overnight) because they work country programs; or are visiting country programs; or because they are responsible for implementing the police checking/vetting process staff.

Budget Responsibilities: £xxxx per year 


Role Dimensions: Flexibility, detail oriented, follow up on medium to high risk cases, individual and group sessions, concise frequent feedback and reporting, creativity, outreaching, agility, level of self-autonomy, communication with different community stakeholders.


KEY AREAS OF ACCOUNTABILITY


Programme implementation/management:


Case management of vulnerable children in need of case management:


  • Identify, assess, refer (to relevant services) and follow-up on at-risk children and families (Case Management) including confidential documentation.
  • Provide specific support to vulnerable children by providing alternative care Support the identification of out-of-school children, children victims of violence, Worst Forms of Child Labor, Unaccompanied and Separated children through regular home visits to the child and the family, developing a work-plan and a safety plan with the child. 
  • Conduct regular visits to communities and Child Friendly Spaces (CFS) to work with facilitators, outreach volunteers and animators on the identification and referral of at risk-children.
  • Provide information on existing social services and how to access them.
  • Maintain files, registers, computer databases and records in paper or electronic format.
  • Work across different contexts, including local communities, informal settlements, community spaces etc., with a particular focus on outreach work and support in identification, referral and case management of the most vulnerable children (in line with organizational strategy)
  • Participate in weekly case management and coordination meetings.
  • Provide cash according to internal guidelines and needs
  • Provide timely feedbacks and report to the line manager (including challenges, success stories, case load, implemented outreach activities and awareness sessions) on weekly and monthly bases
  • Confidentially document (physical filings, soft documents and reports, CPIMS)

Provide specialized PSS for children and caregivers and training to relevant stakeholder:


  • Provide Focused Psychosocial Support (FPSS) for vulnerable children as group sessions using appropriate curriculums. 
  • Implement sometimes support sessions for caregivers especially on communication, stress relief, and dealing with problem.

Work across different contexts, including local communities, informal settlements, community spaces etc. with a particular focus on outreach work and support in identification of the most vulnerable children (in line with organizational strategy). 


Team management and capacity building


  • Work closely with other sectors/ partners to ensure capacity of identification and referral skills
  • Submit reports weekly reports concerning implemented outreach activities, case load and related challenged 
  • Work as a member of a team ensuring fluid communication of relevant information in order to make sure that work with individual cases is of quality

External relationships/Representation


  • Close coordination with other CP actors as needed to ensure appropriate implementation of activities in line with national policies, procedures and standards.

General


  • Ensure a strict adherence to the principles of child protection and child safeguarding at all times, including respect for confidentiality and always acting in the best interests of the child
  • Comply with Save the Children policies and practices with respect to child protection, code of conduct, health and safety, equal opportunities and other relevant policies and procedures.

QUALIFICATIONS 


  • BA in social work, social sciences or other related fields.
  • Fluency in written and spoken Arabic and English

EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS


Essential


  • Experience in working with at-risk children and families, experience in case management in the emergency response.
  • Ability to work under pressure and willingness to work flexible hours in the event of major emergencies, with good time management skills
  • Ability to write and submit weekly and monthly reports, develop schedules and collect data 
  • Understanding of social welfare systems and child protection mechanisms 

Desirable


  • Experience in working with CPIMS systems for data management 
  • Experience in community mobilization and conducting outreach activities 
  • Good written and spoken English or French 
  • Commitment to and understanding of Save the Children’s aims, values and principles including rights-based approaches
  • Self-initiator, with good team spirit, and creative in setting out realistic case plans
