Job Description
The Teacher Assistant for Students with Learning Difficulties provides essential support to students who face challenges in academic learning. This role involves working closely with the classroom or special education teacher to implement individualized learning plans (IEPs), adapt instructional materials, and create a supportive environment for students with learning difficulties. The Teacher Assistant plays a critical role in promoting student engagement and helping them reach their full potential.
Key Responsibilities:
- Individualized Support:
- Assist students with learning difficulties by providing one-on-one or small group instruction under the direction of the teacher.
- Help implement and monitor students’ Individualized Education Plans (IEPs) .
- Adapt and modify instructional materials to meet the needs of students.
- Use specialized teaching techniques and tools to support learning.
- Classroom Support:
- Work closely with the classroom teacher to deliver lessons tailored to the abilities and needs of students with learning difficulties.
- Assist in managing classroom behavior by using positive reinforcement strategies and behavior management techniques.
- Support the teacher in preparing materials, lesson plans, and activities that are aligned with students' learning goals.
- Progress Monitoring and Reporting:
- Observe and document students' progress and behavior during lessons and activities.
- Provide feedback to the classroom teacher regarding the performance, progress, and any concerns about the students.
- Assist in administering assessments and tracking student progress toward academic and behavioral goals.
- Emotional and Social Support:
- Encourage and support the development of social skills in students with learning difficulties.
- Build positive relationships with students to foster self-confidence and motivation.
- Address students' emotional needs by offering guidance and assistance as they navigate academic and social challenges.
- Collaboration:
- Work as part of a multidisciplinary team, which may include special education teachers, counselors, speech therapists, and other professionals.
- Communicate effectively with parents, guardians, and caregivers about students’ progress and areas of concern.
- Participate in IEP meetings or other planning sessions as needed.
- Classroom Environment:
- Help create a structured and inclusive classroom environment that caters to the diverse learning needs of students.
- Ensure that learning spaces are safe and free from distractions, allowing students to focus and engage.
- Assist with classroom transitions, ensuring that students move smoothly between activities.
Qualifications:
- Education: High school diploma or equivalent required; associate degree or certification in special education, early childhood education, or related field preferred.
- Experience: Experience working with children with learning difficulties, autism, ADHD, or other learning disabilities is preferred.
