· To act under the supervision of the Neuro Surgery Consultants in the provision of an Neuro Surgery service and to support the Neuro Surgery Consultants/specialists in their duties.
· To assess patients from the Emergency Department.
· Report and discuss all unusual findings, complications, or alterations in the management plan, with the Specialists or Consultants.
· To attend daily ward rounds with the Neuro Surgery team.
· To review patients on a regular basis in accordance with the plan of care made by the attending consultant and inform the consultant of any issues or problems.
· Document reviewed findings in clinical notes in a timely and legible manner.
· To cover Operating Room duties as assigned.
· To attend to pre and post-operative assignments.
· To discharge patients on consultants’ instructions and write discharge summaries.
· To respond to any adverse occurrences e.g., injuries, falls, etc…, suffered by patients, visitors, or staff.
· To contribute to quality improvement; risk management initiatives and policy development so that the overall Neuro Surgery Service is of the highest quality and reflective of best practices.
· To adhere to Hospital Policies and Procedures e.g., JCI, Code Blue, infection control, working hours.
· To undertake any other duties that may be required, which could include assisting medical colleagues throughout the hospital.
· Assist in covering for unexpected absence.
· Handling unscheduled emergency cases.
· Participation in Registrar on-call Rota and to provide cover in exceptional circumstances for colleagues’ absence. Although a timetable will be provided, you will be expected to be flexible, in the interest of patient care and to meet the needs of the department as decided by the HOD and CMO.
