Billings and claims officer

About Job:

Under the direction of the Head, supervise and review medical claims submitted for payment to ensure accurate claims are created and submitted to third party payers in accordance with timely filing deadlines.

Responsibilities:

1. Adhere to Patient Accounting Services budgets and ensure optimal utilization of all available resources.
2. Implement approved policies, processes and procedures to ensure work is completed in a controlled and consistent manner while meeting the hospital’s objectives; Ensure cost-efficient usage of all applicable resources to reduce wastage and unnecessary expense; Share ideas and viewpoints to further streamline processes, thus driving efficiency and improvements across the organization.
3. Ensure compliance and adhere to all relevant HSE and Risk management procedures.
4. Take part in change initiatives, programs and projects that reflect international best practice and changes in the competitive environment.
5. Verify patient and physician information on all claims level; Ensure the correct Current Procedural Terminology (CPT) and International Classification of Disease (ICD-10) codes are used; Ensure codes listed are for actual services performed, Submit clean claims to proper insurance. Answer questions about charges, billing policies, claims arrangements, Report concerns of non-compliance or suspected non-compliance to the Head of Patient Accounting Services.

Qualifications and Experience:

• Associates Degree, preferably in Business Administration. University Degree preferred. 
• Relevant Certification in coding preferred.
• 2 to 4 years of experience in Medical Insurance/Healthcare 
• Experience in medical billing, revenue cycle, or third party payers in an acute healthcare setting preferred.
• Experience using Microsoft office (Outlook, Excel, Word, and PowerPoint).
