TERMS & CONDITION:



Position Title: Communications Assistant (Social Media)
Grade: SC5
Contract: Service Contract
Multiple Duty Stations: Baghdad, Iraq
Duration of contract: 6 months, with possibility of extension subject to funding availability and satisfactory performance
Salary: Minimum Annual Net Salary is USD 21,441.00
Medical Plan: International valid medical plan for the staff member, spouse, and dependent children
Annual leave: 30 working days per annum

JOB PURPOSE



To support the communications team with creating content to enhance the visibility of WFP’s work in Iraq and support fundraising activities through social media activities, in addition to creating multimedia content for use on social media, advocacy, or other purposes, with a particular focus on Social Protection activities in accordance with the Country Strategic Plan (CSP) 2025 - 2029.

ACCOUNTABILITIES/RESPONSIBILITIES



The Communications Assistant will help WFP Iraq to:
Draft and pitch social media content, web stories about WFP Iraq’s programmes and activities for the three main platforms (Facebook, X (formerly Twitter), and Instagram) Support the social media plan by developing social media content, and utilizing platforms, networks and partners to enhance coverage and support of WFP’s activities. Monitor and analyze traditional and social media to inform the development and/or evaluation of communication activities and strategies. Assist the Communications teams in building the social media portfolio for WFP Iraq. Working on multimedia content to supplement the needs of the Country Office. Collaborate with other UN agencies and stakeholders on joint content. Gauge public perceptions of WFP’s work, through monitoring social media comments and messages to provide a clear understanding of the WFP brand in Iraq, with a view to enhancing people’s engagement with WFP and understanding of the organization’s work. Provide other support to the External Relations unit as required. Other tasks as requested.

DELIVERABLES



Posting Social Media content on a regular basis. Comprehensive Social content calendar, that is a live document and is updated regularly. Monitoring of enquiries via social media and responding in an appropriate manner;

QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE REQUIRED



Education: Bachelor’s degree in media, Journalism, English, or another relevant field. Coursework in social media, digital communications and/or International Relations, Development studies, Political Science, or other relevant field is an added advantage.
Experience:
Overall, five years of experience with 2-3 years of experience in communications, or social media. Experience in using graphic design and video editing software is an added advantage. Experience in setting up and managing social media accounts would be considered as an asset. Excellent understanding of Iraq's various social media platforms, public spaces and tools used by Iraqi citizens to express opinions and perceptions Strong analytical skills, including a capacity to clearly confer information and findings to a variety of audiences Knowledge of WFP Iraq is an asset
Knowledge & Skills:
Strong analytical and written communication skills, including the ability to write in an informative manner and clearly synthesize information Attention to detail Critical thinking and proactive work approach Excellent interpersonal skills Ability to plan and organize work independently Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines Initiative, enthusiasm, creativity and flexibility with excellent interpersonal skills Initiative, enthusiasm, creativity and flexibility with excellent interpersonal skills
Languages: Native fluency in written and oral Arabic. Strong knowledge of English in written and oral communications (essential).
