About MAG:
MAG (Mines Advisory Group) is an international humanitarian organisation based in Manchester, UK, working in 32 countries. We remove landmines and unexploded ordnance to release safe and productive land for communities and work to reduce the threat of armed violence by supporting governments in safely managing weapons and ammunition. In 1997, MAG was a co-recipient of the Nobel Peace Prize for our work campaigning for the Anti-Personnel Mine Ban Convention.
About the role:
We are seeking an experienced Country Security Manager (CSM) to manage the daily security requirements of the Syria programme, including work sites, bases, operational areas and internal and external guard forces. You will be based in Northeast Syria (NES) and will frequently travel within NES and to Erbil, Iraq. You will monitor and assess security conditions and advise the Senior Management Team (SMT) as appropriate. You will also be responsible for developing and delivering safety and security training, mentoring, and developing the local security team. This role will allow you to use your extensive technical knowledge and experience in security management and analysis to support an organisation working hard to improve the lives of communities in challenging environments.
About you:
You do not need a military or police background to apply, and we particularly welcome applications from women. You will be a humanitarian security risk management specialist, experienced in facilitating safe access and operations in conflict-affected areas, and able to identify, analyse and mitigate a broad spectrum of threats. Ideally, you will have direct experience in Syria or equivalent familiarity with the region’s challenges or similar high-risk environments. You will be an excellent communicator, able to write reports and produce engaging security and intelligence products, explaining them to various stakeholders. Your track record should demonstrate collaboration within diverse teams to achieve strategic objectives.
About the Syria programme:
MAG has been responding to the Syria crisis since 2013, working to support the development of conflict by finding and destroying the explosive remnants of war so that communities can raise their families and pursue their livelihoods in a safe and secure environment, free from fear of death or injury.
