Roles and Responsibilities:
As a key member of the Commissioning team the technician will be self-driven and report to the discipline supervisor.
Key responsibilities:
Discipline specific:
- Ensure Electrical Safety rules are understood and complied with during works and activities.
- Knowledge of Hazardous are and equipment requirements.
- Verify the proper installation of Electrical devices and equipment – attend and represent commissioning during Mechanical Completion Inspections.
- Inspect and confirm correct wiring and connections per Dwgs.
- Ensure compliance with project specifications, SLDs, Schematics and engineering drawings.
- Perform electrical function tests electrical systems ensuring functionality per design.
- Support Electrical interface testing with Cause & Effect (C&E) testing for ESD systems.
- Work closely with process engineers, control engineers, and vendors for system integration.
- Assist in functional testing and startup of plant processes.
- Diagnose and rectify issues related to electrical equipment and electrical management systems.
- Facilitate process to allow maintenance and operations teams with handover of commissioned electrical systems.
Documentation & Compliance
- Manage and complete Inspection test reports (ITRs) for evidence of electrical testing.
- RLMU all the required documents during pre-commissioning and commissioning phase.
- Ensure all commissioning procedures follow safety and quality standards (e.g., IEC, ISA, and project-specific regulations).
- Support and review punch lists and follow up on corrective actions.
- Provide reports on commissioning progress and issues encountered to discipline supervisor
Safety & Work Permits
- Complete Majnoon Safety Training – HSE, ERW, PTW, working at height, driving.
- Adhere to all safety process – PTW Control of Works, including Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) procedures.
- Participate in risk assessments and toolbox talks.
- Ensure compliance with hazardous area classifications and ATEX/IECEx standards.
Key Skills Required
- Strong understanding of electrical principles, SWBs, UPS, Battery, Motor, fan, relays, breakers and electrical distribution systems.
- Experience with electrical test equipment and testing methods and procedures.
- Proficiency in reading drawings – SLDs, schematics and wiring diagrams.
- Familiarity with ICSS, Relay protection systems, power monitoring systems, UPS systems.
- Troubleshooting and diagnosis skills.
- Knowledge of Electrical safety standards and best practices in commissioning.
- Good team working skills and ability to oversee and contractors.
- Ability and confidence to STOP the job if safety concerns are observed.
Education:
- Engineering or technical qualifications in appropriate discipline.
Experience:
- 5 years-experience as Electrical Commissioning Technician on projects.
- Attained and held Electrical authorization for technicians to perform works.
- Experience in the Middle East
- Experience in Oil & Gas and Power are an advantage.
- A good understanding of project Systems Completions tools such as GoCompletions would be a desirable advantage.
