Job DescriptionPurpose of the role
To design, develop and consult on the bank’s internal controls framework and supporting policies and standards across the organisation, ensuring it is robust, effective, and aligned to the bank’s overall strategy and risk appetite.
Accountabilities
- Identification and analysis of emerging and evolving risks across functions to understand their potential impact, and likelihood.
- Communication of the purpose, structure, and importance of the control framework to all relevant stakeholders, including senior management and audit.
- Support to the development and implementation of the bank's internal controls framework and principles tailored to the banks specific needs and risk profile including design, monitoring, and reporting initiatives .
- Monitoring and maintenance of the control's frameworks, to ensure compliance and adjust and update as internal and external requirements change.
- Embedment of the control framework across the bank through cross collaboration, training sessions and awareness campaigns which fosters a culture of knowledge sharing and improvement in risk management and the importance of internal control effectiveness.

At Barclays, we don’t just adapt to the future – Embark on a transformative journey as VP - Controls Mapping Lead where you'll spearhead the evolution of our Control function responsible for leading and coordinating the control agenda in the first line of defence across Barclays covering all operational risks, the role involves sourcing, collating, validating, producing, and publishing data insights and control mappings for the office of legal obligations, ensuring compliance with data management standards and regulatory requirements. You will collaborate with various business functions and stakeholders, including compliance, legal, data privacy, and security, to produce and maintain controls MI dashboards and respond to ad-hoc data analysis requests. You will participate in Data and control governance forums, provide advisory support, and lead workshops to document and improve control processes. Additionally, your role requires effective stakeholder management, leadership, and decision-making to support business strategy and risk management.
To be successful as a VP - Controls Mapping Lead, you should have experience with
- Graduate in any discipline
- Experience in Risk/Controls, Governance, Regulatory Reporting, and Risk Management, preferably in a financial services organization
- Proficient understanding of risk and control framework, working within the first or second line of defense
- Proficient in MS Office – PPT, Excel, Word, Visio, and Power Apps
- Ability to analyze, interpret, and collaborate to identify issues and develop solutions
- Clear understanding of effective control environments, enterprise risk management frameworks, and operational risk
- Experience in managing or providing inputs for risk/control committees
- Extensive experience managing stakeholders across geographies and cultures, including presenting to senior leaders
- Experience in a risk and control capacity within a major banking/financial services organization
- Commercially astute with a consultative, pragmatic approach to solving issues, focusing on significant and valuable areas for the business
- Strong understanding of risk and control environments, including second and third line functions and their impact across people, processes, and technology
Highly valued skills:
- Experience in Data Crunching/Analysis, with the ability to handle datasets
- Understanding of Data Management Principles and Data Governance, including BCBS 239
- Background in controls within a multinational bank, with experience in risk and control self-assessments (RCSA) and risk appetite frameworks
- Experience in assessing and remediating issues and risk events, and communicating with regulators to address regulatory findings
- Relentless drive for executing consistency, efficiency, and effectiveness across the organization
- Self-starter who takes ownership of delivery and can monitor/report progress to completion
