The FBA team is responsible for the science, business, and operations of the core systems, algorithms, and seller-facing tools and workflows of the FBA service. These enable FBA sellers to enroll selection, plan and inbound product, and manage and action inventory in Amazon fulfillment network - managing through the full inventory lifecycle. FBA Capacity Management and Planning organization builds and manages tools worldwide for FBA capacity allocation, market-driven additional limit system, capacity management in emerging countries, inventory planning and forecasting, and the north-star seller-facing metric, the Inventory Performance Index.
FBA Capacity Management and Planning is looking for a highly motivated System Development Engineer to help build Amazon's business critical capacity and planning systems and build system solutions to operate at scale. You will work on critical business functions for our customers around the world while meeting aggressive system availability goals and ensuring system performance with growing business needs. You will discover innovative ways to automate and scale our infrastructure as we expand globally. You will work together with multiple teams and departments, with plenty of opportunities to learn and grow.
We are seeking an experienced people manager to lead the team of System Development Engineers and develop tools to improve the productivity at a massive scale The prospective manager will drive automation initiatives. He will partner with Product/Science/engg and support new initiatives to meet the product goals. He will be responsible to innovate for solving complex problems and continuously improve the systems. A successful candidate will be a hands-on manager with an established background in developing tools, automated solutions at scale, developing and hiring talent, have strong technical ability, great communication skills, and a motivation to achieve results in a dynamic fast paced environment.
Key job responsibilities
Key responsibilities of the role include (not limited to):
- Define and Drive goals for the team which includes understanding the product goals by working with the partners, track the progress, and support the team in delivering the goals.
- Manage the design and development of tools and automated solution to manage the data and services at scale to improve the productivity and quality of the models and availability of services including code reviews, testing, deployment and post-launch monitoring.
- Partner with Product/Science/Engineering and support new initiatives to meet the product goals.
- Establish strong relationships with internal partners and peer stakeholders to understand and meet their needs
- Focus on hands on development of your team. Mentor, coach and grow highly talented engineers. Train engineers on best practices and drive operational excellence.
* A Bachelor's or a Master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, or a related field, or five or more years of work experience in System development as an equivalent.
* 2 or more years of people management experience leading System development and Support teams.
* Proficiency in one or more general-purpose programming languages such as Java, C/C++, C#, Objective C, Python, JavaScript, Ruby, and Go.
* Experience designing, building, and operating large-scale distributed systems or web services.
* Experience in managing large scale infrastructure and automation.
* Experience engaging and influencing senior executives using both verbal and written communication tools.
· Expertise in operational excellence, security compliance, and distributed systems’ resiliency.
· Knowledge of professional software engineering practices & best practices for the full software development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, and operations.
· Experience developing in Python for similar modern programming language, such as C++, Java, C#, or Ruby.
· Expertise in operations of highly available and scalable internet systems with large customer base.
· Experience managing staff and meetings across multiple sites and time zones.
· Excellent communication abilities, both verbal and written, including long-form business writing on complex topics.
· Ability to drive effective teamwork, collaboration and commitment.
· Excellent analytical problem solving and troubleshooting skills.
· Experience developing and improving operational documentation, procedures and workflows.
· Ability to credibly coordinate between technical teams, peers and business stakeholders.
· Ability to quickly learn and adopt new technologies.
· Experience managing on-call support coverage, escalation and critical issue management.
· Experience in contributing to the definition and implementation of automation opportunities within an operations environment.
· Experience in root cause analysis and error correction, identifying changes to procedures and systems to implement long term fixes and avoid repeating issues.
