The Amazon Payments supports multiple payment products and processes millions of transactions every day across numerous countries and payment methods. Over 100 million customers and merchants send tens of billions of dollars moving at light-speed through our systems annually, and use our products on and off Amazon.
We build systems that provide various payments features and process payments at an unprecedented scale, with accuracy, speed, and mission-critical availability. We innovate to improve customer experience across the globe, with support for currency choice, pay using installments, pay with reward points, in-store payments, pay on delivery, credit and debit payments, seller disbursements, gift cards, and many new exciting and challenging ideas are in the works.

Key job responsibilities
* Deliver logical, maintainable, and timely technology solutions to meet defined requirements
* Learn and apply current engineering best practices, such as getting designs and code reviewed, incorporating feedback, and writing clear documentation
* Test solutions and classify, store, and handle data in accordance with Amazon policies
* Actively seek guidance from managers and peers, and apply that feedback to your work
* Participate in team discussions around design, scoping, and prioritization, learning to understand business goals and customer needs
* Ensure solutions address team goals and improve customer experience
* Learn to identify and scope problems, calculate solution costs, and make technical trade-offs
* Assume responsibility for systems you inherit and produce, applying principles of operational excellence
* Understand system requirements, performance properties, and dependencies, and troubleshoot issues
* Remain calm under pressure and know when to ask for help
* Begin learning about customer experience and provide excellent support
* Identify and address operational risks, especially at component level
* Help train and mentor interns, and potentially participate in hiring process
A day in the life
L5 System Development Engineer II will be responsible for designing and delivering innovative technology solutions that address complex business problems. L5 Sysdev will a) work autonomously, with the ability to seek direction from peers and managers when needed. b) will consider the long-term implications of the systems you build, ensuring they are scalable, efficient, and cost-effective. c) will be a trusted technical contributor, participating in strategic planning and decision-making with customers, partner teams, and peers.
- Experience in automating, deploying, and supporting infrastructure
- Experience programming with at least one modern language such as Python, Ruby, Golang, Java, C++, C#, Rust
- Experience with Linux/Unix
- * 2+ years of software development and system design experience
- * Proficiency in one or more programming languages and frameworks
- * Understanding of software architecture patterns and design principles
- * Ability to write maintainable, tested, and well-documented code
- * Strong problem-solving and analytical skills
- * Familiarity with agile software development methodologies
- * Willingness to learn new technologies and take on challenging problems
- * Good communication and collaboration skills
- Experience with CI/CD pipelines build processes
