We currently run a large eCommerce platform serving the full-stack, but we want to start to move towards the next-generation of eCommerce architectures – headless, API-first, cloud-native and micro-service based. About the job


The right person will be a high performing Senior Java Engineer with experience on complex Java applications. They will contribute to Pearson's technical transformation by developing global capability onto the PMC core technical platform. We are looking for someone with passion for technology and a drive to help us move towards our architectural vision.


This is a unique opportunity for a senior technologist to help us build something that will directly enhance the lives of millions, by supporting the provision of education on a global scale. The role will report into the Support Manager. 


As a senior eCommerce engineer you will: 


Key Responsibilities


  • Implement, document and unit test complex modules using Java and Spring
  • Ensure Java code is of high quality and adheres to non-functional requirements
  • Follow and contribute to the project's technical best practices and development standards
  • Perform code reviews and ensure Java modules developed are flexible and reusable.
  • Take ownership of assigned support tasks/incidents, troubleshoot the issues and provide resolution.
  • Coach and mentor junior members of the team & help drive the team’s sprint commitments.
  • Support the management of architectural and technical risk
  • Work with project management and business analysts to manage the flexible scope with business owners
  • Strong focus on high quality throughout the entire process, working closely with the Quality Assurance stream
  • Collaborate with Technical Lead, Solutions Architects and Enterprise Architects for aspects related to integration with other system
  • Advocate the new architectural vision and help move further customizations to use that pattern

Skills & Abilities:


  • Strong Java, Spring & API development experience
  • Experience in SAP Hybris e-commerce development and troubleshooting high-priority incidents  
  • Exposure/willing to learn complex eCommerce implementations
  • Excellent understanding of object-oriented programming, design patterns, relational databases, complex integration landscapes & non-functional requirements
  • AWS (Lambda, Fargate, Kafka) & microservices architecture experience (desirable)
  • Experience of full-stack development, using client-side technologies such as AngularJS, React or Vue JS (desirable)
  • Min 5+ years industry experience
  • Excellent communication skill
