The Staff Engineer – Product Cyber Security for Beckman Coulter Diagnostics is responsible for cybersecurity function in Microbiology software product development for the entire suite of desktop and cloud application products. You will participate in reviews and inspections for all elements in the software lifecycle to ensure that our software quality and customer satisfaction goals are achieved. You will participate in all elements of the software life cycle and be part of a Scrum Team.


You will be called upon to work collaboratively with our business partners, Architects, Product Managers/Owners, for leading the process and product improvement efforts across different product lines to ensure compliance with international security and privacy regulations and internal security and privacy policies.


You will work with globally distributed Agile teams in a fast- paced environment. Your team members will be located in Bangalore and will closely collaborate with the development teams in Sacramento, California.


This position is part of the Beckman Coulter Diagnostics – IDC Microbiology located in Bangalore and will be onsite. At Beckman Coulter, our vision is to relentlessly reimagine healthcare, one diagnosis at a time.


You will be a part of the IDC Microbiology team and report to the Senior Engineering Manager responsible for translating Microbiology’s strategic vision into technical reality. In this role, you will have the opportunity to:


  • Drive improvements of the software development process related to privacy and security of the company software products, by identifying improvement opportunities and gaps with security and privacy company policies, and collaborating across different functions (QA, software development, verification, service, support, supply chain, etc.) to address them
  • Drive improvements of the company products related to their privacy and security, by helping to identify risks, improvement opportunities and gaps with security and privacy company policies, and driving geographically distributed teams towards creating product roadmaps, specifications, architecture and designs to address them
  • Create and maintain corresponding action plans and metrics, and provide corresponding reports and status updates
  • Create and maintain related software development policies, processes, standards and guidelines, and ensure their successful deployment and adoption by the development teams and other functions
  • Organize and lead threat modelling, risk assessments, security reviews, and incident responses and ensure risk mitigation and other related actions are executed in a timely fashion
  • Serve as security expert in the areas of risk management, architecture and design reviews,  implementation of desktop and cloud-based applications
  • Oversee internal and external penetration testing activities and corresponding 3rd party relationships
  • Champion selection, piloting and adoption of new security tools and corresponding 3rd party relationships
  • Point of contact for customers security questionnaires

The essential requirements of the job include: 


  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science or related field
  • 9+ years of hands on experience in software development
  • 9+ years of solid experience in IT security and/or software development security
  • Proven record of coordination, leadership and driving distributed teams to results
  • Solid experience with full lifecycle of designing and implementing security for desktop and cloud products starting from threat modelling and risk assessment
  • Industry recognized security certifications such as CISSP, HCISPP, CSM, CISA, GIAC, CEH
  • Strong knowledge of security standards, frameworks, technologies and best practices
  • Experience with risk management, threat analysis and penetration testing
    • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and time-management skills
    • Strong communication and excellent collaboration skills
    • Direct experience with medical devices, SOX, HIPAA, FDA, PCI, Safe Harbor and other security and privacy governance is preferred.

It would be a plus if you also possess previous experience in:


  • Continuous Integration experience (CI/CD).
  • Experience developing regulated medical device software that strictly adheres to design controls and quality management system requirements (FDA CFR 820, ISO 13485)
  • Experience with Delphi.
