Senior Principal Engineer in Software Development (NMS and AI/ML)


Job Description:


Infinera NM team is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Principal Engineer in Software Development with a focus on Network Management Systems (NMS) and Artificial Intelligence/Machine Learning (AI/ML). The ideal candidate will be passionate about Cloud Architecture, Open-Source Software, Machine Learning and AI, Security, Scalability and ready to incorporate these into mature enterprise SW products for full stack aware development.


Roles & Responsibilities:


  • Lead the design and implementation of new functions using required technologies such as Cloud integration, AI and Machine Learning, web technologies, scalable frameworks etc.
  • Conduct peer code reviews and ensure adherence to best practices.
  • Utilize agile development tools such as JIRA, GIT, Confluence, and CI/CD with Jenkins.
  • Debug along with hardware and software engineers.
  • Mentor and guide junior engineers in adapting new technologies and architectural principles.
  • Develop and implement AI/ML models to enhance NMS functionalities.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate AI/ML solutions into existing systems.
  • Ensure the functionality and quality of Infinera's products before the new features and enhancements are released to end users.
  • Work with most of the NMS product portfolio, leading to a quick and good overall system understanding.

Education Necessary:


  • Candidates must have a bachelor’s degree or higher in Engineering in CS or EE with very good academics

Technical Skills Required:


  • Programming Languages: Java, Python, Go, JavaScript.
  • Database Systems: SQL (Oracle/Postgre) and cloud storage systems.
  • SW Platforms: Cloud-based container providers – AWS/Azure/GC.
  • Architecture paradigms: Event-Driven Architecture (e.g., Kafka, NATs), REST Interface-based systems, Micro services architecture.
  • AI/ML: Experience with AI/ML frameworks and tools such as TensorFlow, PyTorch, scikit-learn, etc.
  • Basics of Network Protocols and Standards

Experience Necessary for Success:


  • Experience: 10+ years within software development, with at least 4 years in a senior software architecture role.
  • Experience in Product Development or Full Stack Development.
  • Flexible, innovative, and driven.
  • Structured and thorough with analytical and troubleshooting skills.
  • Highly motivated team player.
  • Driven and willing to drive your own initiatives.

The list of applicable countries in Country Group D:1, E:1 or E:2may be updated by the U.S. government from time to time. The current processing time for an export control license is approximately 4 to 6 months.


Your employment or engagement with Infinera shall be contingent on verifying your eligibility or requirement for obtaining a necessary license and/or authorization from the appropriate agency. You will be required to provide certain information for export control compliance assessment purposes, and your information will be reviewed by Infinera's hiring and export control teams to ensure compliance with the U.S. export control laws and regulations. Infinera will collect necessary documents (such as proof of citizenship etc.) to assess license/authorization requirements if you are offered and accept the position.”
