This is a key role within the banks second line of defense, controls assurance team. The person in this role should have strong risk management expertise, exceptional written and oral communication skills, strong understanding of banking business processes, stakeholder management skills and the ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines at once.
The role will have accountability for performance of the assigned business controls testing process, stakeholder engagement, productivity of team members, seamless service delivery, quality, and effective people management.
The role will primarily involve review and challenge of the first line control testing. This will include reviewing and challenging the Design and Operating effectiveness assessment performed by first line testing and evaluating its adherence to banks Controls Assurance (CA) standards. The review and challenge effort will evaluate if the first line test assessed the controls effectiveness in mitigating the risks it intended to cover.
Further, the role will require to discuss key findings and observations (if any) with the stakeholders and disposition identified gaps as per the CA Oversight procedures and should follow banks Issue Management standards for formally logging tracking issues and remediations.
The person in this role will require to document and maintain their work as per the organization’s standards and procedures.
The person in this role should have a good knowledge of operational and compliance risks in a bank and a broad understanding of the control environment mitigating those risks. This will require broad knowledge of consumer and commercial banking products and services, as well as applicable laws and regulations.
The role requires to interact closely with first line control testing teams, control owners, Business Unit (BU) leaders, First Line Risk Managers (FRM) and other stakeholders in SVB India and/or in US, for their day-to-day work. Strong communication and interpersonal skills are necessary to achieve the required objectives.
Experience in performing controls testing in a bank or large financial institutions is preferred. Exposure to performing review and challenge activities as part of second line risk management will be an added advantage.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Assist the CA leadership in planning and scoping of controls to be tested.
- Ensure the high quality and efficient delivery of control testing for self and the team
- Evaluate the Design effectiveness assessment of first line testing to ensure it covers the key design elements such as comprehensiveness, appropriateness, timeliness, and reliability.
- Evaluate the Operating effectiveness assessment of first line testing to ensure compliance to the CA standards. This would include assessing the testing techniques used, sampling methods applied, rationale supporting the evaluation and conclusion.
- Document the review in the prescribed “DE and OE Review and Challenge template” and maintain adequate evidence and audit trail for future reference.
- Finalize the testing oversight result in discussion with the responsible first line testing teams, CA BU Readiness team, Business Unit (BU) leaders, First Line Risk Managers (FRM) and other stakeholders.
- Communicate the finalized results to the relevant stakeholders as per the CA oversight procedures
- Assist with status and results reporting to the CA Oversight testing lead.
- Assist with ad hoc and special projects as necessary.
