In this vital role you will responsible for the design, development, and maintenance of several technology products supporting R&D Precision medicine. These products are principally Data Management and Knowledge Management tools that provide the Amgen scientific community with visibility to Amgen’s wealth of human datasets, projects and study histories, and knowledge over various scientific findings. These are not transactional solutions but rather visibility solutions that are based on enterprise data mastering, standardization, harmonization, and linking, and federated visibility into multiple data repositories. These solutions are pivotal tools in Amgen’s goal to accelerate speed to discovery, and speed to market of advanced precision medications.This hands on leader is responsible for leading a team of data engineers, with the mission to enhancing the long term performance, flexibility, usability, and value of the solutions. This role involves close collaboration with architecture and fellow engineering leaders supporting this product team, and related product teams, along with User representative collaborators to define robust application development standards and engineering patterns.The ideal candidate has strong experience in the development of software solutions that support multiple customer groups, with a “product” approach. The successful leader will have advanced data management background, with exceptional data profiling background, designing data mastering and transformation features, and presentation of data through various visualization approaches. This role involves working closely with product managers, designers, and other engineers to create high-quality, scalable software solutions and automating operations, monitoring system health, and responding to incidents to minimize downtime The role requires exceptional communication skills, and a deep understanding of Agile methodologies.Roles & Responsibilities:Take ownership of complex software projects from conception to deploymentManage software delivery scope, risk, and timelinePossesses strong rapid prototyping skills and can quickly translate concepts into working codeProvide technical guidance and mentorship to junior developersContribute to both front-end and back-end development using cloud technologyDevelop innovative solution using generative AI technologiesConduct code reviews to ensure code quality and adherence to standard methodologiesCreate and maintain documentation on software architecture, design, deployment, disaster recovery, and operationsIdentify and resolve technical challenges effectivelyStay updated with the latest trends and advancementsWork closely with product team, business team, and other collaboratorsDesign, develop, and implement applications and modules, including custom reports, interfaces, and enhancementsAnalyze and understand the functional and technical requirements of applications, solutions and systems and translate them into software architecture and design specificationsDevelop and execute unit tests, integration tests, and other testing strategies to ensure the quality of the softwareIdentify and resolve software bugs and performance issuesWork closely with cross-functional teams, including product management, design, and QA, to deliver high-quality software on timeMaintain detailed documentation of software designs, code, and development processesDesign features with flexibility to meet many use cases via configurable settings, user permissions, and other such design patternsWork on integrating with other systems and platforms to ensure seamless data flow and functionalityProvide ongoing support and maintenance for applications, ensuring that they operate smoothly and efficientlyWork with large datasets to preprocess, clean, and transform data for into standardized, connected data setsDesign semantic layers that bring raw data to report-ready consumption modelsEvaluate and optimize solution performance using appropriate metricsDesign and implement systems and processes to improve the reliability, scalability, and performance of applicationsAutomate routine operational tasks, such as deployments, monitoring, and incident response, to improve efficiency and reduce human errorDevelop and maintain monitoring tools and dashboards to track system health, performance, and availabilityRespond to and resolve incidents promptly, conducting root cause analysis and implementing preventive measuresProvide ongoing maintenance and support for existing systems, ensuring that they are secure, efficient, and reliableWork on integrating various software applications and platforms to ensure seamless operation across the organizationImplement and maintain security measures to protect systems from unauthorized access and other threatsWhat we expect of youWe are all different, yet we all use our unique contributions to serve patients.Basic Qualifications:Master’s degree with 8 - 10 years of experience in Computer Science, IT or related field ORBachelor’s degree with 10 - 14 years of experience in Computer Science, IT or related field ORDiploma with 14 - 18 years of experience in Computer Science, IT or related fieldAdvanced SQL skills, including design of complex views and store proceduresAdvanced data architecture specifically for change data capture and data warehouse patternsStrong experience with enterprise use of data visualization platforms such as PowerBI, Business Objects, and CognosStrong understanding of software development methodologies, including Agile and ScrumPreferred Qualifications:Strong experience with DatabricksExperience with version control systems like GitHands on experience with Full Stack software development.Strong understanding of cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, GCP, Azure) and containerization technologies (e.g., Docker, Kubernetes)Experience in developing differentiated and deliverable solutionsExperience with human data, ideally human healthcare dataFamiliarity with laboratory testing, patient data from clinical care, HL7, FHIR, and/or clinical trial data managementProfessional CertificationsSAFe Agile Practitioner (6.0)SQL certification as appropriate (preferred)Databricks certification as appropriate (preferred)Soft Skills:Excellent analytical and troubleshooting skillsAbility to manage multiple priorities successfullyTeam-oriented, with a focus on achieving team goalsDeep intellectual curiosity, particularly about data patterns, and learning about business processes and “life of the user”Strong problem solving, analytical skills;Ability to learn quickly and retain and synthesize complex information from diverse sourcesHighest degree of initiative and self-motivationStrong verbal and written communication skills, including presentation of varied audiences through complex technical/business topicsConfidence in leading teams through prioritization and sequencing discussions, including managing stakeholder expectationsAbility to work effectively with global, virtual teams, specifically including leveraging of tools and artifacts to assure clear and efficient collaboration across time zonesWhat you can expect of usAs we work to develop treatments that take care of others, we also work to care for your professional and personal growth and well-being.
