Job Description

Sr. Mainframe Developer
Experience Level:8-10 Years
Domain:Core Acquiring/Processing Business


Overall Responsibilities:


  • Design, develop, and maintain mainframe applications supporting core acquiring/processing business functions, including client settlement, interchange settlement, clearing/funding, billing, and dispute resolution.
  • Provide L2 production support and troubleshoot issues within mainframe systems, ensuring optimal performance and reliability.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to gather requirements and translate them into technical specifications.

Software Requirements:


  • Proficient in mainframe development, particularly using COBOL, DB2, VSAM, JCL, and Batch processing.
  • Familiarity with development and testing environments, ensuring proper setup and maintenance.
  • Strong understanding of job scheduling and control using Broadcom tools (e.g., CA7, Endevor).

Category-wise Technical Skills:


Mainframe Development:


  • Expertise in COBOL programming and mainframe database management (DB2).
  • Experience with VSAM file handling and efficient batch processing techniques.

Support and Troubleshooting:


  • Proficient in support roles, addressing production issues and ensuring timely resolutions.
  • Knowledge of best practices in incident management and problem resolution.

Job Scheduling and Management:


  • Competence in using Broadcom tools like CA7 for job scheduling and Endevor for version control.
  • Understanding of mainframe system architecture and performance tuning.

Documentation: Strong skills in documenting code and processes for maintainability and knowledge transfer.


Experience:


  • Minimum of 8-10 years of experience in the core acquiring/processing business domain, ideally with a focus on client settlement, interchange settlement, clearing/funding, and billing processes.
  • Extensive experience in mainframe technology, particularly in a development and test support capacity.

Day-to-Day Activities:


  • Collaborating with business analysts and project managers to understand functional requirements and technical constraints.
  • Writing, testing, and debugging mainframe code while adhering to best practices and coding standards.
  • Providing ongoing support for production environments, including monitoring system performance and addressing incidents.
  • Conducting code reviews and providing mentorship to junior developers.

Qualifications:


  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field. Relevant certifications in mainframe technologies are a plus.
  • Proven experience in mainframe development and support.

Soft Skills:


  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a commitment to quality and efficiency.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to convey technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively as part of a team.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities effectively.
