What you will do


The Network Security Engineer Specialist plays a meaningful role in Information Security for Amgen. The individual will support assigned capabilities within Information Security with the focus on Securing Perimeter, Cloud, Automation and Manufacturing Systems. The Network Security Engineer Specialist will work with various partners at Amgen in a manner aligned to Amgen's values to define and implement Information Security Services strategies, standards, tools and processes.


This team member will work jointly with other Amgen teams like Security Operations to implement technologies, processes, and other improvements in assigned Information Security capabilities. This will also include participation in on-call activities. This engineer will play a key role in building, deploying and maintaining solutions to support Amgen operations. Let’s do this.   • Implementation and operational run of technologies and processes relating to the network security capability, including issue identification and resolution, integration with other tools, documentation, gap assessment, gap resolution and continuous improvement of the capability.
  • Collaborates cross-functionally with Amgen staff, contractors and service providers to deliver continuous improvement in cyber defense/resilience.
  • Keep up-to-date, make recommendations, and lead or participate in the implementation and continuous improvement of technologies and services in assigned information security domains.
  • Work with and provide guidance to Security Operations and other Information Security team activities on security strategies, processes, response, and technologies.
  • Support Incident Response on security incidents including contributing to mock security incident exercises.
  • Develop or participate in the development of business cases and presentations on information security technologies of interest to Amgen.
  • Perform security design consulting in support of projects including participation to security architecture reviews.
  • Participate in projects or initiatives where an Information Security Engineer is needed with a focus on ensuring inclusion of information security requirements.
  • Provide mentorship and training on areas of expertise to Information Security and Amgen teams.
  • Participate in audits covering information security services and technologies.
  • Participate in proactive research and provide recommendations for continuous improvement on information security technologies, processes and services.
  • Participate in on-call and perform appropriate customer concern of problems and issues.
  • Network Security Engineers will also present project status reports to senior management, adhere to policies and practices relative to technical guidelines and change management processes, and may contribute to the development of new policies and practices by suggesting innovative ideas

What we expect of you


Basic Qualifications:
  • Master’s degree and 4 to 6 years of Information Security or Information Technology experience OR
  • Bachelor’s degree and 6 to 8 years of Information Security or Information Technology experience OR
  • Diploma and 10 to 12 years of Information Security or Information Technology experience
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Strong demonstrated knowledge on Fortinet UTM/Firewall solution including services of SSL & IPSec VPN, IDS/IPS, Firewalls, Web Proxies, and Web Application Firewall (FortiWeb)
  • Experience with deploying & managing Fortinet supporting technologies including FortiManager, FortiAnalyzer, EMS, FortiConverter, and FortiAuthenticator.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience in one or more Information Security capability like security monitoring, threat intelligence, network security, data security, endpoint security, technical security assessments, security architecture.
  • Practical Knowledge of Information Security standards and policies like ISO 27001/27002, NIST 800-53, MITRE ATT&CK
Good-to-Have Skills
  • 5+ years as a network security engineer supporting a multinational organization
  • Knowledge of GxP, IEC-62443, and other manufacturing-related standards and applying them in manufacturing and shop floor automation systems or environments. These includes experience in one or more of information systems supporting the manufacturing business unit like MES, Emerson DeltaV, Rockwell PLC/SCADA, BMS, and others
  • Cloud security certifications like AWS SAA-C03, Azure AZ-305, GCP – PCA or similar
  • Experience with user documentation as it relates to the delivery of information security services in a (preferable FDA) regulated environment
  • Strong knowledge of network engineering verified by having obtained credentials as a Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA) or higher / equivalent
  • Experience programming in compiled (C, C++) and interpreted languages. (Python, Ruby etc.)
  • Skilled programmer with some experience in high level programming languages such as C++, C#, Java, Python, Visual Basic
  • DevOps experience building and deploying infrastructure with cloud deployment, build and test automation technologies like ansible, chef, puppet, docker, jenkins, etc
Professional Certifications:
  • NSE4
  • NSE5 FortiManager/FortiAnalyzer (preferred
  • CISSP or equivalent security-related industry certifications (preferred)
Soft Skills:
  • Excellent analytical and troubleshooting skills
  • Highly motivated and able to work effectively under minimal supervision
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills in English
  • Successful management of multiple priorities
  • Effective working with global, virtual teams
  • Team-oriented, placing priority on the successful completion of team goals
