Strategic Sourcing plays a crucial role in both product and non-product-related sourcing and category management. Our goal is to develop and maintain a stable and competitive supply base that supports Vanderlande's projects, services, and ambitious growth. You'll be working closely with our teams in R&D, Engineering, Quality, Service, Projects, and other Supply Chain departments globally, fostering strong collaborations and ensuring we deliver top-notch results.

Your role


As a Sourcing manager, you will be responsible for developing and maintaining a reliable supplier base to support current and future projects. You will be responsible for developing new suppliers and for the execution of the strategy and managing the supply risks. You will ensure the performance of your suppliers on quality, delivery, service, and cost competitiveness. You negotiate best contract conditions for Vanderlande and ensure healthy relationships with your suppliers.


We are seeking a versatile leader to oversee our strategic procurement activities. As a Sourcing Manager, you will collaborate closely with internal stakeholders and manage the supply base to effectively meet business demands. This role demands strong leadership, strategic thinking, and effective communication skills to ensure successful outcomes across multiple functions within the organization. You will be integral to projects in the Warehousing, Parcel, and Airport markets.


Your Responsibilities


  • Conducting market analysis to identify potential new suppliers, supplier assessment, approval, onboarding, managing supplier relationships through regular Business Review Meetings & maintaining a healthy supply base serving business demands.
  • Own and nurture the relationship between key suppliers and Vanderlande, become intimately familiar with suppliers’ capabilities, capacities, strengths & weaknesses.
  • Establishing and maintaining Framework Agreements and other supplier agreements, including negotiating commercial conditions, cost models and lead time.
  • Procurement for the large projects and complex categories,
  • Supporting the Sales team as a Procurement Bid Leader during critical project bids.
  • Coordinating seamless collaboration among stakeholders within the supply chain to develop comprehensive supply plans and ensure accurate cost estimations for equipment purchases.
  • Support buyers to escalate and resolve issues with existing suppliers, evaluate supplier performance through quarterly business reviews and monthly performance dashboard issuance.
  • Identify project specific requirements (technical, volume etc.) in the sales pipeline (12+ months out) to proactively ensure availability of the right suppliers.
  • Review technical requirements from product R&D and project engineering and recommend how to adjust specifications to minimize costs, lead time and risks (manufacturability, localization and standards, standardization)
  • Communicate upcoming market changes to stakeholders (technology, workload, new players, market prices, M&A…)
  • Be the sourcing point of contact for a portfolio of the assigned categories.
  • Collaborate closely with sourcing managers across globe to align with the global category decisions.
  • Apply best sourcing practices and identify continuous improvement opportunities in tools and processes (RFI, RFQ, award criteria, spend analysis, supplier scorecards, …)
  • Contribute to end-to-end overall flow optimization and performance (On Time Delivery, costs, flexibility).

Job Requirements (skills and experience)


  • Bachelor's or Master's, Degree in a technical field, Business Administration, Procurement, or Supply Chain Management (or equivalent) with a minimum 18 plus years of experience.
  • Strong organizational abilities, skilled at multitasking and paying attention to detail.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, capable of communicating effectively across all levels of the organization.
  • Collaborative mindset, promoting teamwork and fostering relationships across functions.
  • Effective time management skills, able to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines in fast-paced environments.
  • Entrepreneurial spirit, ability to set own goals and get things done.
  • Ownership, willing to seek answers and hold stakeholders accountable for results.
  • Extensive experience in contract management and handling escalations.
  • Hands-on experience in costing activities, utilizing cost estimation programs.
  • Ability to understand the VOICE of customer and translate that to action and drive the actions for continuous improvement.
  • Excellent negotiation skills, creative thinker, problem solver
  • Good interpersonal and influencing skills, superior communicator.
  • Sense of customer service, cross functional team player, relationship builder
  • Ability to summarize complex situations and provide clear recommendations.
  • Good command of English, both verbal and written
  • Willingness to travel, up to 30%.
