Autodesk's Developer Enablement organization is seeking an Engineering Manager with Observability specialization to oversee the day-to-day operations, support, and consulting for our core Observability platforms Catchpoint, Dynatrace, Splunk, Cribl, BigPanda, and LogicMonitor. Autodesk's Observability Platforms organization seeks a hands-on, experienced Engineering Manager to lead a team of intelligent and driven engineers responsible for building, maintaining, and supporting Autodesk's comprehensive observability ecosystem in Bangalore, India. This role will focus on consulting and operations support across our enterprise-wide observability platforms.
This Senior Manager possesses a strong sense of ownership and will lead an engineering team that develops and manages our advanced observability stack, including Dynatrace for APM, RUM, Metrics and Distributed Tracing, Health Dash boarding, Catch point for Synthetic monitoring, Splunk for Logging, Cribl for Log Streaming, BigPanda for AIOps, LogicMonitor, PagerDuty for notifications, and ServiceNow for Incident management. This leader will ensure applications running in AWS cloud environments are properly monitored, with all self-services hosted in Backstage Internal Developer Platform acting as Beacon and UCP as backend.
Responsibilities
Lead and develop a successful team of Observability Platform engineers through recruitment, performance management, and career development
Provide insight, feedback, and recommendations to senior management on observability strategy and best practices
Establish and maintain operational metrics, SLAs, and performance standards for the observability platform
Implement and maintain observability standard methodologies, including tagging, metrics, and logging to provide comprehensive access to system performance
Work with architects, product owners, and application teams to define requirements and Observability solutions
Ensure Observability coverage for Tier 0 and Tier 1 services to track platform adoption against standards
Oversee the day-to-day operations of Autodesk's global observability service ecosystem
Lead incident response and problem management for critical observability platform issues
Ensure compliance with regulatory and security requirements for monitoring infrastructure
Generate regular reports on license usage, agent upgrades, and incident/problem creations
Optimize resource allocation and shift coverage for 24/7 operations
Promote automation technologies and self-healing capabilities
Collaborate with a geographically dispersed team and stakeholders
Build and foster a high-performance culture focused on service excellence
Partner with business collaborators to understand and support organizational needs
Cross-train and mentor teammates on observability best practices
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree and 10+ years of experience in Observability Operations, with at least 4 years in management OR Master’s degree and 8+ years of experience in Observability Operations, with at least 3 years in management
Hands-on experience with cloud technologies (AWS)
Recent hands-on experience with Python/Go
Deep understanding of monitoring and notification technologies, observability concepts using Dynatrace and other observability platforms
Experience working with remote teams and other cross-functional stakeholders
Strong understanding of designing and implementing observability for large-scale, distributed microservices architecture
Experience with Scrum and agile development processes and methodologies
Understanding of DevOps best practices, architectures, and methods
Experience with Docker and Kubernetes environments
Experience with configuration management tools and cloud automation (e.g., Terraform, Ansible, etc.)
Experience defining and building CI/CD processes and working with standard CI/CD tools
Knowledge of Infrastructure and Application monitoring, including logs and distributed traces
Experience with AWS services
Preferred Qualifications
Experience with Dynatrace, Catchpoint, Splunk, Cribl, BigPanda, PagerDuty, and ServiceNow integrations
Professional certifications (Dynatrace Associate or Specialist Certification, Agile/Scrum)
Experience with Backstage or Internal Developer Platform
Knowledge of TypeScript, React, and Python scripting
Solid background in open telemetry and integration into complex, distributed systems
Knowledge of container and Kubernetes environments
Experience with monitoring and logging tools (Splunk, ELK)
Good understanding of networking and security concepts
Experience generating reports on license usage, agent upgrades, and incident/problem creation, and using data to optimize resource allocation
