The Engineering R & D function at Medtronic Engineering & Innovation Centre encompasses design, development and Verification – testing activities during NPD and Sustaining phases of product development support/ during turnkey NPD Projects for the GBUs. The function is accountable for both design and design transfer support for a product under development. It entails, but is not limited to, activities commonly carried out during the product development lifecycle including Upstream R&D, Concept, Feasibility, Development, Qualification and Post-Market support.
A Day in the Life
The Engineering Manager – Software Ops (R&D) would be accountable to sustain and enhance the Engineering function. This position will provide leadership and management of the software products delivery and operations for all business units within CRHF to ensure continued high quality of our products, solutions, and services. This role is expected to be a leader in the Software Operations function, and drive adoption of DevOps as a Culture across the organization. This role will be responsible for standardizing process and tools across the Software organization, drive implementation of Continuous Integration/Continuous Delivery pipelines, and maintain consistent environments across critical applications. This role will continuously seek opportunities to increase our productivity and quality of our software releases.
The individual would be accountable for the management of the projects within span of engagement at MEIC, aligning cross functional resources on strategic project goals and timelines, reporting progress and project costs, developing relationships with other GBU development teams who can provide strategic partnership in the development process, preparing and monitoring annual budgets, championing teams and creating a culture of success.

Position Responsibilities
Responsibilities may include the following and other duties may be assigned.
- Responsible for DevOps processes, tool chain, and implementation of best practices including design, requirement capture, coding, testing, code management, deployment and maintenance.
- Design and implement DevOps automation leveraging appropriate tools.
- Define and implement metrics (or performance dashboards) to drive higher quality and schedule predictability across project teams.
- Partner with the infrastructure team to ensure the environment is available to support software development needs.
- Identify and deploy software development best practices including agile, continuous integration and DevOps.
- Partner with software teams and R&D functions to drive software delivery of products and solutions.
- Lead, direct, organize and control planning for Annual Operating Plan (AOP) expense budgets.
- Drive continuous improvement mindset for the organization (including lean principles to improve productivity) to achieve quality, speed and innovation.
- Understand the external technology landscape and where CRHF should partner with external partners or acquire external technology to meet our needs.
- Provide functional and department leadership to organization and oversee organizational talent planning, performance management, salary administration, and employee relations issues.
- Mentor, coach and develop software engineers to increase their effectiveness as well as employee engagement by creating a collaborative, learning environment.
- Actively work to promote employee engagement through organizational diversity, culture, and team building.
Education:
- Required: Bachelor of Engineering or Bachelor of Technology in Computer Sciences, Electronics or Electrical Engineering, Bio-Technology, or Equivalent from a premium institute.
- Preferred: Maters in Engineering or Masters in Technology Computer Sciences, Bio-Medical, Electronics or Electrical Engineering, Bio-Technology, or Equivalent from a premium institute.
Required Skills/Competencies:
- Minimum of 12+ years of applicable work experience in a product development & Global team environment specific to Mechatronic – SW Product development;
- 8+ years of product development, test development, or operations.
- 5+ years of progressive leadership experience 5+ years experience in technical leadership or hands-on experience on Software applications. E.g. Application / Web / Cloud preferred .
- 5+ years of People & project management experience in Software
- Experience in managing large, complex technology initiatives of strategic importance to the organization involving cross-functional teams.
- Experience owning, supervising and delivering concurrent software releases using iterative/agile techniques, ensuring on-time delivery and good quality.
- Prior experience in a large MNC as Engineering Manager is desired.
- Experience in developing and maintaining a deep technical understanding of GBU product lines and technologies;
- Experience in developing departmental budget and manages expenses in line with organizational objectives; approves departmental expenditures including capital and manpower expenses;
- Excellent Technology management, project management skills; demonstrated success executing complex engineering projects with diverse technical teams; management of globally dispersed teams highly-preferred;
- The position requires a highly collaborative individual with program management critical experience and an understanding of the environment, processes and tools required for efficient and effective delivery of innovative and high-performance medical devices and health care provider solutions.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, negotiating; managing change; goal setting; planning and organizing teamwork; ability to address difficult situations;
- Must possess managerial courage; must be confident managing risks and making decisions that will likely have a large impact on organizational objectives;
- Good financial acumen; strong mathematical and financial capabilities;
- Demonstrated experience managing a large, diverse technical department with budgetary responsibility;
- Must have leadership skills and personal strength to protect projects from unsubstantial change requests while ensuring project focus remains in place;
- Fluency in English;

- Up to 15 % travel internationally and domestic
Nice to Have (Preferred Qualifications)
- Experience with Azure DevOps and related solution for requirements management, productivity management, testing, CI/CD, etc.
- Experience with Agile Development.
- 2+ years of experience developing with Ruby, Java, Python, Perl, PHP or similar.
- 3+ years of interfacing with servers and/or virtual infrastructure (Windows, Linux and/or VMware, AWS, Azure).
- Knowledge of medical device technology regulations and standards
- Strong communications skills and executive presence.
- Proven ability to operate in a matrix organization and work effectively with senior leadership, customers, and across geographic, cultural and organization boundaries.
Principal Working Relationship
The individual would work closely with other cross functional teams to ensure proper communication, resource management, and skill development across departments. Builds trusting relationships with SBU/GBU R & D leadership including regional and corporate organizations where needed; is the primary contact for the Engineering R & D function.

- M.B.A preferred
- Certification in Systems Engineering or PMP is desired.
- Certified in Six sigma practices is desired.
