The Global Real Estate and Facilities (GREF) Tech organization, part of Finance Automation, develops enterprise-scale services and systems that power Amazon's corporate real estate operations across 60+ countries. Our technology enables the workspace experience for over 500,000 employees globally through innovative building systems, workplace services, and employee-facing applications.
We are seeking a Software Development Manager to lead a team building key components of our workplace experience platform. This role offers the opportunity to drive technical innovation in how Amazon employees discover, access, and interact with workplace services and information. You will own critical services that bridge multiple enterprise systems, delivering seamless experiences that help Amazonians be more productive in their workspace.
As a Software Development Manager, you will lead a team of talented engineers in designing and delivering solutions that scale globally. You'll own the technical roadmap for your team's services, making architectural decisions that balance innovation with operational excellence. A particular focus will be leveraging AI/LLM technologies to enhance how employees find and interact with workplace information, requiring you to make thoughtful technical choices while maintaining high standards for security, reliability, and performance.
You will collaborate closely with product managers, UX designers, and partner engineering teams to define and execute your team's technical strategy. Your role involves translating business requirements into technical solutions, mentoring engineers in their career growth, and establishing development practices that enable your team to deliver consistently. You'll be responsible for the full lifecycle of your services, from design through deployment and operational excellence.
The ideal candidate brings strong technical depth and experience leading software development teams. You should have a track record of delivering customer-focused solutions and growing engineering talent. Your technical judgment will be essential in making architectural decisions that balance immediate needs with long-term sustainability. Experience with enterprise software development and modern cloud architectures is important, and familiarity with AI/ML technologies would be valuable.

Key job responsibilities
* Technical Leadership & Delivery
Lead the design, development, and operation of workplace experience services that serve Amazon's global employee base
Own architectural decisions and technical roadmap for team's services
Drive integration with enterprise systems while maintaining high standards for security and reliability
Ensure operational excellence through monitoring, metrics, and continuous improvement
* People Management & Development
Build and lead a high-performing team of software development engineers
Coach and mentor engineers in their technical and career growth
Provide regular feedback and career development guidance to team members
* Product & Program Management
Partner with product management to translate business requirements into technical solutions
Manage development priorities and resource allocation across multiple projects
Drive implementation of AI/LLM capabilities in workplace services
Establish and track appropriate metrics for measuring success
* Cross-team Collaboration
Work effectively with UX, product management, and partner engineering teams
Represent team's technical decisions and commitments to stakeholders
Participate in technical design reviews and architecture discussions
Align team's work with broader organizational goals and standards
About the team
This is a new team and charter we are starting. It will have 6-10 members, including SDE's, Front End engineers, and a TPM. They will closely collaborate with sister teams in India and in the US.
- 3+ years of engineering team management experience
- 7+ years of engineering experience
- 8+ years of leading the definition and development of multi tier web services experience
- Knowledge of engineering practices and patterns for the full software/hardware/networks development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, certification, and livesite operations
- Experience partnering with product or program management teams
- Experience designing or architecting (design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems
- Experience in communicating with users, other technical teams, and senior leadership to collect requirements, describe software product features, technical designs, and product strategy
- Experience in recruiting, hiring, mentoring/coaching and managing teams of Software Engineers to improve their skills, and make them more effective, product software engineers
