We are looking for a talented Software Development Manager to build a team of engineers to tackle a list of problems that have pained our customers historically.
The Mesa team enables other Amazon businesses to move faster by providing tools and solutions to common problems, with a notable focus on ensuring vendors and content providers are paid globally. If you are ready to be part of a global program and work hard to help many Amazon teams succeed in this mission, this position is right for you. Successful Software Development Managers will have a technical background, be detail-driven, and have excellent communication skills. You will have a track record of building cohesive teams that can deliver results. You love growing engineers and are invested in their successes. You have a strong customer focus and advocate for their needs in product development, roadmap prioritization, requirements and design reviews, and in operational support. You have a solid understanding of the software development lifecycle and agile development processes. You are able to handle multiple, competing priorities while removing roadblocks to keep development moving. The Mesa team builds reusable software for a multitude of Amazon businesses, including Kindle, Amazon Video, Amazon Music, and more. You'll work directly with engineers, product managers, leadership, customers, and other stakeholders from these various businesses to address issues in our space that have some of the highest customer pain points.

* Team Leadership: Build, lead and develop a team of software engineers, fostering a culture of innovation, ownership, and continuous improvement.
* Technical Strategy: Collaborate with product managers, architects, and stakeholders to define the technical vision and roadmap for your team's projects.
* Delivery Management: Ensure on-time delivery of high-quality software solutions that meet business requirements.
* Resource Planning: Manage resource allocation, hiring, and team skill development to achieve project and organizational goals.
* Architecture Oversight: Guide the team in designing scalable, reliable, and maintainable systems, adhering to Amazon’s architectural best practices.
* Stakeholder Communication: Act as the primary point of contact for project status, risks, and challenges with internal and external stakeholders.
* Operational Excellence: Drive the adoption of best practices for software development, testing, deployment, and monitoring to ensure robust systems.
* Mentorship and Growth: Provide technical and career mentorship to engineers, fostering an environment of learning and professional growth.
• Experience with a variety of development methodologies including Java and relational databases
* Data-Driven Decision Making: Use metrics and data to track team performance, identify areas for improvement, and drive informed decisions.
* Innovation Advocacy: Encourage experimentation and the implementation of new technologies and approaches to solve complex problems.
- 8+ years of software development experience
- 4+ years of software development manager, managing teams of more than 5 software engineers experience
- 2+ years of building production software experience
- Experience leading agile development teams and scrum spring planning
