Alexa answers to billions of customer requests and is getting smarter each day in her ability to answer all different category of questions and carrying on day to day tasks for customers. Along with this scale and rich functionality, comes the challenge of maintaining high availability of our services in a highly distributed architecture. We must continuously innovate to get better at responding to our customer’s requests fast. The systems you design and build, sit at the integration point of this innovation. Your ability to innovate materially impacts the experience of customers around the world who rely on Alexa for their day to day chores and queries.
You’ll be part of a team that has full view of Alexa system and functionality. This is a high impact, high visibility role where you will work closely with Principal Engineers across Alexa to execute your projects. You will be responsible to design and build the components of cross cutting platform solutions aimed towards improving Alexa's availability while keeping the larger architecture simple to maintain and sustain longer term with high resilience. As the SDM, you will drive the implementation of Operational Readiness Review suite of products used by highly critical Alexa services. The SDM will contribute in maintaining and improving Alexa's availability which in turn improves the Alexa customer experience.

About the team
We are the Alexa Availability organization, responsible for building centralized solutions that empower Alexa to be highly available.
- 7+ years of engineering experience
- 3+ years of engineering team management experience
- 8+ years of leading the definition and development of multi tier web services experience
- Knowledge of engineering practices and patterns for the full software/hardware/networks development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, certification, and livesite operations
- Experience partnering with product or program management teams
- Experience designing or architecting (design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems
- Experience in communicating with users, other technical teams, and senior leadership to collect requirements, describe software product features, technical designs, and product strategy
- Experience in recruiting, hiring, mentoring/coaching and managing teams of Software Engineers to improve their skills, and make them more effective, product software engineers
